Next, I wouldn't mind hearing some input on the swappability of transmissions from other cars. From what I gather, the W210 E55's transmission will bolt in. I suspect the CLK55, SLK55 and W203 C55 would also go into the C43, but they would likely lose their 'Speedshift' function. I doubt the ML55 or G55's all wheel drive transmissions would work, but it would be lovely to have an all wheel drive, W202 C55 - it would really wipe the smiles off S4 owners....

Hey guys,
I see some posts say you can run the C43 ecu on the 5.4 displacement without problems? in my limited experience with tuning i dont see how that would work correctly as WOT must still run on maps,i guess knock control could be retarding timing enough to cope with the increased displacement but it would be far from ideal,has anyone actually run the 5.4 on a dyno to check AFR's??
If there was an opportunity to install the E55 ECU,TCU and security module what would stop them from functioning correctly in the C43?

I think there is more power to be gained if the C43 ecu can be reflashed with a E55 performance tune.

WOW... almost 70 ft/lbs and almost 45 HP more at the rear wheel, IMPRESSIVE. More and more I am thinking about canning the W210 idea and dumping the $$$ into the 55 swap...

WOW... almost 70 ft/lbs and almost 45 HP more at the rear wheel, IMPRESSIVE. More and more I am thinking about canning the W210 idea and dumping the $$$ into the 55 swap...

It wont work. The problem is the radiator support and the small inlets they have by the front grill. SpeedyBenz and mbenzman have the best solutions. You'll have to trace their threads.
I did like Mbenzman and put in the entire CL320 intake and built a ram air intake by losing the passenger side foglight where the space is much bigger and where you'll get tons of air rammed into the intake.

Very nice #'s. That's about where mines was when we first dynoed it with the stck exh and SW.

The numbers are good. I want to see if we can squeeze another 20-30 rwhp with a tune. Need to convince my friend its $400 well spent dollars

Shouldn't take much convincing, $400 for even 20 HP is WELL worth it... I would spend $800 for 20 HP RIGHT NOW!!!

hate to rain on your parade guys, but i looked at this thread and it hit me. I have an 03 s430 basically same engine as the c43, do you think i will be ok doing a straight swap as well, leaving ecu untuned?

It's doable (he's done it!), and there are probably a few other swaps out there (including at least one in Germany) but there's not a lot of info on it out there.
I recall Money-One posting about his difficulties with the engine management, and how the stock ECU is at its limits to tune the supercharged engine. The alternative is stand alone engine management, but the next issue there is that most aftermarket stand alone systems don't typically have the capability to handle twin spark heads. If the heads were normal, I suspect Money-One would have gone down that route, and happily running the car, long ago.
I'd be keen to see what the German swap(s) have done in this regard. It could potentially involve the entire drivetrain and electronics swap from a 55K car? Sounds like fun, but I'm sure its a huge pile of work too!

I'm certain he would know something as I can image that AMG special projects department (I'm sure that exists....) would have done that kind of conversion. A pity as it seems he just disappeared

1000 buxx must be a high mileage engine or what?
then you need a 300 speedo

It has a cracked oilpan and the cabel harness has melted.
Its about 12500miles on the engine..
I am going to do a total renovation of the engine. will replace all gaskets and send the heads to the pressure test, check the crankshaft bearings, replace the water pump, etc., etc. paint engine in light gray/white as the M156 engine..
