For the true carbon fiber junky

I ran across these bad boys and thought I would post the pics cause I know how some of you guys love your carbon fiber....

For the true carbon fiber junky-carbon-fiber.jpg

For the true carbon fiber junky-carbon-fiber-2.jpg

For the true carbon fiber junky-carbon-fiber-3.jpg

Made by a company called Carbon Revolution, unfortunately these will not fit our W202 AMG's without some SERIOUS fender rolling and such (if you could even get them to fit.....) This is promising though as I am sure they will be coming out with some smaller sizes in the future which would fit our W202's but for the cost of an arm and a leg I am sure.

Here is the website of the company where you can get the specs:

I guess they cost way more than both our C fou three's.
they are lightweight rims and makes our cars go faster with less dead weight.

Looks like Lamborghini is taking carbon fiber to the next level! They call it "forged composite" and they plan on using it on all of their cars in the future... Below is an article with pics of the first car to be designed with the forged composite:

Name: lamborghini-sesto-elemento.jpg
Views: 2897
Size: 23.5 KB

"Raw and rude, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento showcases the Italian sports car company’s use of carbon fiber. This raucously edgy sports car employs a new type of the lightweight material for its central tub called “forged composite.” Lamborghini has rights to the name and a hoard of patents related to this new material.

Rather than being layered, like traditional carbon fiber, chopped fiber is put into a stamp and (according to Lamborghini officials) the finished chassis tub is complete in only eight minutes. The entire car weighs 2200 lb. It even has carbon-fiber wheels.

A V-10 engine and permanent all-wheel-drive are borrowed from the Gallardo. In terms of overall proportions, the Sesto Elemento has more in common with the “baby Lambo” than the company’s larger, range-topping Murciélago. Lamborghini did coyly tell us it would consider building the Sesto Elemento—strictly a concept car at this writing—so long as the potential owner had deep enough pockets to foot the bill."

V-10 with all wheel drive and 2,200 lbs. !!!!! Talk about a road rocket

Found these too... Carbon fiber batteries. I guess they resist heat from the engine better but that doesn't help us as our batteries are in the trunk.

Not for the car, but here are some CF collar stay

For those that don’t know what collar stays are, here’s a little background. Most dress shirt collar have little pockets on the underside of the collar, and many times come with plastic collar stays when you buy the shirt. They help keep the collar stiff and crisp for a clean look. Plastic ones are cheap, flexible, and they can melt if you forget to take them out when ironing. High-end collar stays are typically made out of materials like stainless steel or titanium. What if you travel a lot, or you’re a lawyer that has to go through metal detectors in court? That could be a pain having to remove them every time. That’s where carbon fiber steps in to save the day. Since carbon fiber has no metal, these will not get detected by metal detectors, saving you a lot of time and hassle. Not to mention they’re extremely light.

These are cool dynomite05! I never knew these things existed. It's really a hassle wearing a metal collar stay when you go through metal detectors in federal buildings. Where can you buy/get these?

I'm vacuum bagging them tonight, stay posted! I'll be putting up a new thread soon =]

Also, the ECU compartment cover is also getting a CF cover as well. It's such a large flat piece, so perfect for that 2x2 twill

I was looking for the car they had the carbon fiber rims on and found it.... It is called the Ultimate Aero SSC and up until now it was the fastest production vehicle in the world (Bugatti just released a new version of the Veyron called the Veyron Super Sport which now does 268 MPH vs the Ultimate Aero's 257 MPH). The Ultimate Aero is made by a company called Shelby Super Cars (no relation to Carrol Shelby) and is located in Washington State.

Here are some photos, the first couple are from the dubai auto show:

I found this article about another company making carbon fiber rims.... Wish I had $12k to drop on some rims

A Japanese company by the name of Weds Sport has come up with the first full carbon fiber wheel. They unveiled the wheels with what they call their Dry Carbon Wheel Project at the last Tokyo Auto Salon show.
One wheel weighs in at just 2.76kg, which works out to be 6.08475844 pounds. Interested in getting a set of these for your car? Expect to pay around $10,000-$12,000 for the set. While it sounds expensive, you can easily spend $8,000+ on custom three-piece forged wheels from a company like HRE.

I tried to get somebody to translate the Japanese from the above display at Tokyo Auto Salon, but this was the best I got from user fithamoto on the Nissan 350Z forums:
Its kinda of complicated, but it basically says its a Dry Carbon Fiber process that can be used on automobile & motorcycle tires. Something about the weight and color too. It points out the differences between a wet CF proces & Dry CF process.
Sorry, really not much help after all. I guess your gonna need to get a first gen. Japanese to translate it correctly.
If anybody else can translate better, we’d love to know what the rest says…just post a comment below.
Weds Sport’s display also featured a wheel with a carbon fiber face, but more than likely a forged aluminum wheel surrounding. This is probably a much cheaper solution, and potentially arguably better looks.
There is some concern about a wheel being 100% carbon fiber that I’ve seen from people online…especially considering the weight of the wheel. Is it strong enough to support a car normally driving, let alone at a race track? What about the cost of repairing the wheel if something gets damaged? Does it need to get fully replaced, or can it be fixed for substantially less cost?
There is another company by the name of Dymag that makes carbon fiber wheels (which we’ll cover in a future post), but their hub is made out of magnesium. Apparently this is for strength reasons, which makes me think these fully carbon fiber rims should only be used for show cars. I’d like to hear Weds Sport’s thoughts on this.
