Wheel bearings

Wheel bearings
Hello All, I have re-packed the wheel bearings and replaced my front brakes in the last 6-mos on my 1999 C43. Originally it had a bright green wheel bearing grease. I re-packed using a synthetic wheel bearing grease. I tightened the locking nut/screw to a reasonable tightness and re-assembled.
The wheel bearing locking screw/nut hasn't moved but the wheel bearings now have movement. I'm afraid of cranking down the lock nut etc. Any ideas?

Typically when I do bearings, the procedure is something like; tighten the hub too tight, loosen slightly, check the free play with a dial indicator.

when i do the wheel bearings i set them to what feels right then i road test the vehicle and recheck the bearings. most of the time the bearings will need to be tightened up a bit more as they loosen up after driving.

Yes it is, but you need to chase out the bearing flanges (sorry I don't recall the right name) which are press into the inner and outer hub. Otherwise, it is a lot of old grease which needs to be cleaned out and new grease packed in a dirt free hub. I'll see if I can find a DIY video.

hmm.. sounds doable but I haven't pressed bearings before.. wondering if I am up to this. Gonna have to read up a little more.. not really any pictures left in the thread.

I am pretty sure you will need a press of some sort, I had my wheel bearings repacked when I bought the car but I took it to a shop to have it done...
