looks like you would need 18mm not 19. A lot of socket sets skip 18mm.

I have the allen socket set now, but I didn't when I changed the brakes and bearing. I used the standard keys like you but I attached a large vice grip to the short end and turned (the long end goes onto the caliper pins). This and some pb blaster did the trick for me.

Yea, I'm sort of confused here. two different 18mm sockets do not fit, but a 19mm is slightly too big at the same time? It fits, but is just a tad loose too... Did MB ever make 18.5mm bolts? lmao

are you using 6 pt or 12 pt? im pretty sure it's supposed to be 18mm.

6 point: 18mm does not fit, and while 19mm does, there is a teeny bit of room for play.

12 point: 18mm does not fit, and 19mm will spin if too much pressure is applied.

Hmm, going to have to look into this some more tomorrow...

If I remember correctly I used a 19mm and it had a tiny bit of play...

Ok so I read through this whole thread coz the time has come for me to replace my rotors

"thepinoc" did those 2005 330mm c230k sport rotors work out fine for you and did you need any modifications done in order to install them?

Thats all I need to know......

Doing more research, there are a few slight discrepancies between the OEM c43 rotors and the c230k sport rotors, but that was expected, now wasn't it? Just for posterity, let's list the known differences:

1. c230k rotors are 330mm diameter vs c43 rotors at 334mm diameter. Hoping there will be no unexpected problems down the line with the 4mm missing.
2. c230k rotor thickness is 28mm vs c43 rotors at 32mm. Slightly concerned about this, will brake pedal feel be affected? I'll assume there should be more pedal travel before braking occurs.
3. c230k rotors are both drilled and vented vs c43 rotors which are only vented. As i recall though, drilled has just about no benefit whatsoever, and is purely cosmetic. They sure do look good though
4. c230k rotor weight: 9.62 kg vs c43 rotor weight: 9.56 kg. Difference of .62kg, quite negligable.

Thoughts and opinions?
Hi thepinoc,

How did these rotors work out on your car?

Full bolt-on and plug-n-play with absolutely no problems My initial worries were completely baseless.

Well I was gonna go with some R1 Concepts slotted at some point, but unfortunately, found out that my front rotors have less than 3mm of usable thickness left and I'm short on cash, so my hand is being forced. I'm gonna order the C230K rotors for the front. Thankfully, I found them at $58/pop!

Still not a fan of the reduced thickness though. 28mm to 32.

Glad to hear it. Sounds like everyone who's gone with the C230K rotors has had no issues.

Quick question about rear rotors though: do you need to do anything regarding the parking brake when you take the rotors off? Gonna do the rears in a month or so.

No major problem. Just need to loosen the adjustement scew throught one of the lug holes. Check the shoes and if not too rusty, just clean all around, put a bit of grease on moving parts and leave them alone. They have practically never no wear, not unless you drive with the hand(foot) brake on

Alright guys, I'm new to floating calipers and am also stuck. I removed the 2 retaining pins and the 2 bolts. Now I've read your guys' DIY links and whatnot and all of you refer to sliding off the caliper. Either I'm doing it wrong or there's a certain way to slide it off. My father can't even do it.

Any tips?

Note: Front calipers

Are the pads out? If so i have no idea. If not it's usually just a pretty tight squeeze. I usually have to get a rubber mallet and/or a piece of wood and bang up on the ends of the caliper, side by side, and wiggle it off

No, pads are not out. Rotor spins freely.

Guess I'll bust out the rubber mallet...

Edit: Got it off! Ended up being a LOT of pasty gunk on the mounting bracket where the caliper and bracket meet (on the inside side of the rotor), which apparently prevented the caliper from coming off with any normal/slightly-above-normal amount of force. Ended up prying the caliper from the mounting bracket from both top and bottom (left and right?) sides with screwdrivers little by little until it came off.

This is what I had to do as well. Had 119,000 with the stock Jurids and they still had a little meat left but they did not want to come off. Since I was changing the rotors it made it real easy as I just used the rotor as leverage.

I was one of the first to do this conversion, by tracking down the dimensions. I will say that i have 15k miles with no problems, i believe they stop as good or not better then the oe rotors and they just look cool, Cheers, Outlaw

Guys,

I think the "R129 SL500/600 98-2002 #: "129 421 21 12 or 23 12" are a closer measurements , if we need to replace ours.., but its little

heavier & needs some little mods. for the Pads isn’t ....??

ZAYED,,

Its karma...if you weren't sarcastic the rotors would have came off much easier.
