AMG start to modified C43 to 5.4l in "Apr/1999",,

according to VIN #, deliver date was Dec/1998, means the car was established in Sep/1998..

Guys, I have seen real C55's taken from 98 and delivery date 00, with VIN showing 113.983/722.636 with gate shift. it does happen!

 

Guess they must have got lost in the parts departement

 

IIRC the C55 was a custom ordered upgrade. They pay to have a 43 upgraded at Affalterbach. Could be any year.

 

Also, all original C55s came with 18's stock

 

The 3 or so I have seen VIN's for only had 17"

Sulco's right,They were shipped back to amg after or at sale hence the odd build dates.

 

Weird because according to the MB factory homologation papiers for w202 wheels, no 18" are mentioned...

Looked around my computer files and found the pdf MB Factory document containing all the wheel combinations homologated for the w202.

No 18" wheels are listed and this is also the reason I need to switch to my OE 17" when I am called for the technical inspection every 2 years...

 

It's not there because c55s were special order

If the W208 Clk55 came with 17's why on earth would one think a factory built W202 c55 would come with 18's I doubt it. I believe the rims stayed at 17 s just like the CLK55

I say Pagz is 100 percent correct! Only thing special ordered is the differential from the clk55 and the 5.4liter motor and maybe but not 100 percent sure the Ecu programming, but we have seen you can just drop in a 5.4 liter motor and it will still run strong with the c43 programming in the labled AMG ECU.

18's came as optional with "E55",

they put gearbox from "R129 Sl500", but don't think they put 5.4l from "Clk55", cause original one has differ #: "113.983"..!!

No not the engine but the differential from the clk55, in the US the E55''s ,S55,CL55,SL55 came with 18s

the difference with front cover only, and can be swappable with both..

I think W202 C55 will be for sale again this week. Last week hasn't been sold. Keep an eye on Japanese car auctions guys. I wanted to check VIN number but there was mistake on the report- only 16 digits.I would recommend to look on Wednesday or Thursday. If you would like to bid, any action should be taken earlier :-)
