tip-tronic in pre-2000 models

hello all!
im new to the forum and I bought a C43 for a few weeks ago and love it ... First thing my colleagues at work said was that I should put in an E55
engine so I searched the internet for a few days and find you guys, have read all about the change of the engine, so thanks to you guys my girlfriend wont get any birthday presents, (but my car will)

but now I wonder, is there anyone who has changed into a tip-tronic gearbox in a W202 which is
pre-2000??
And which 722.6 gearbox will fit best?

I have searched the EPC and it looks like the W202 had its own tip-tronic gearbox, if you look at the part number.

with out tip tronic- A 202 270 39 00
with-A 202 270 52 00

If I had not had the EPC, I would have guessed that the gearbox with tip-tronic came from W210
someone who knows more about this?

I work as a spare-parts salesman on a mercedes-benz dealership in stockholm sweden, so if you have any questions about part numbers, parts or something else i will be happy to help
I have access to WIS/ASRA, EPC, VeDoc, LogBus

but dont forget, you dont know until you try!

As far as I know Tip-tronic was only available in the 2000 C43's. I do not know of anyone who has switched to a tip-tronic in a pre 2000 C43.

Personally I would be more interested in paddle shifters

Yo brüssan välkommen till forumet.

You'll need a new instrument cluster to show the gears, it's next to your clock.
You'll need new wireloom from the trans up to cluster to show gears.
I bet there's other things needed to be installed that a 98 -99 car is missing or lacks in parts.

Here is a swedish 2000 car check this license plate SDT039

I really don't know if 01 E55 has them in all of them or not? Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. I just bought the used tranny with 20k miles on it and Moneyone did his wizardry.

tackar!

yes I understand that there will be many items that are not in the car.
but I've been thinking about if it is really necessary to replace the entire gearbox, it might suffice to just replace the valve assembly in the gearbox, EGS, gear shifter and linkage, and a reprograming and learning of gears ...

but on the other hand that just may screw the car up
thoughts any one??

thanks for the license plate, been searching for a 2000 VIN

there is a big chance that your tranny have the tip-tronic but you must have everything else to make it work, cluster, EGS, gear shifter and linkage etc etc

Thread revival time.
I know everyone always loves seeing this thread revived

So I have an opportunity to get a REALLY cheap W210 AMG (facelift) instr cluster.

That would mean I can:
A. Update the look
B. Be 1/3 of the way to installing a steering wheel with audio controls/command etc...
C. have a cluster with the tip display

So, if I were to actually follow everybody's dreams of dropping in the 5.5, then getting bored and slapping on an SC, I'd want to upgrade the tranny right?
So I would search for a W210 E55 trans, potentially with tip. Then all I would need is the wiring, correct?
Would I need to replace the shifter part in the car, or might that come with the trans?
Would I need the totally different E55 TCU, or a 2000 W202 TCU, or what?

Thanks guys

Thanks man. Do you know which TCU? Are they married to the chassis at all like ECUs? Could I use an E55 one or would I have to get a 2000W202 one?

The following is what is required to swap tip tronic.

1) replacing the blue solenoids or a valve body assembly with part # "211 270 00 06 " instead of our # "140 270 01/02/03/04/06 06"

2) shift assembly from # "129 260 45/46 98" to # "202 267 08 24"

3) replacing TCU EGS51 from # "021 545 84/86/87/88 32" to EGS52 # "025 545 21 32" or "027 545 10/12 32" or "030 545 20/23 32"

I wonder if
210 267 05 24 from the e-class would work instead of the shift assembly 202 267 08 24....

Cool, so you left the original TCUs in their respective cars, right?

As i know; the W202 shifter assembly is little smaller than W210 one,, that means the slotted screen & the surround cover should be smaller either,, its

NOT possible to switch only the shifter assembly alone, it should be with a TCU, or reprogramming it,, cause the C43 uses 3.07 diff. & the E55 uses 2.82

diff., also the shifter +/- internal switch( which accept the blue solenoids upgrade )is different than the 1-2-3-4 one, thats why the valve body also

should to replaced......

ZAYED,,

Definitely. I actually figured out that the E-class shifter wouldn't fit after I posted that, but couldn't delete the post for some reason.

So are you saying now that I'd need to switch the entire valve body too?

I thought all that needed to be changed was the
TCU
Shifter assembly
Blue solenoids
Instr. cluster if you want to see what gear you're in

The valve body should replaced to "140 270 06 06 or 211 270 00 06",, no need to change the TCU, while you still got 3.07 diff., it may need to

reprogramming it, in the case of putting the blue solenoids, it all depending to the ECU signal backes from the MAF,, the Cluster is your OPTIONAL if you

want to change it.......

So I am confused. I don't understand how the TCU would be able to not be changed when doing this upgrade...

Also I called my benz parts dept. and they said that valve body assembly #140 270 06 06 is what is already in our trans, so I don't see why we would need to change that.

as I had posted before:
switch to part# "211 270 00 06 " instead of our # "140 270 01/02/03/04/06 06"
