Exclamation post pics of your stereo setup!

hi guys! just wondering if anyone here has a nice stereo setup in their w202's that they want to show off. i am planning to buy a c36, and while test driving them, i noticed that the stock bose setup is sort of showing its age when compared to the premium systems in the newer benzes.

i have seen a few pics on other forums of people with the stock euro command navigation, and other pictures of people's stereo decks, subs, and so on. id love to see pictures of how you guys set up your sub boxes and enclosures, and what has worked best for your dynamic routing of your subs and tweeters.

also, please post ideas and discoveries on what has worked well for you when setting up your system, such as how you aimed your subs (in the trunk towards the rear, towards the seats, towards eachother, etc), how you dynamatted/insulated the cabin, how you eliminated any annoying rattles (like the ones that 99silvrc43 has been experiencing), how you modified the dash, etc.

i havent seen any threads like this yet, and i think we could use something here to speed up the activity in the w202 amg forum.

looking forward to seeing some good stuff!

My biggest disappointment with my C43 is the stock stereo. Not that it sounds bad, but without a pair of tweeters at the ear level, the imaging is simply poor. I believe most cars these days, W203 as an example, has a pair of tweeters at the front of the windows just at the base of the rear view mirrors.

My wish is to add just a pair of crossovers and route a pair of tweeters to that triangular area. Is there a factory part for it or do I have to custom make one?

Why doesn't your C43 have tweeters above the air vents?

No, there aren't. The only speakers from the front are at the bottom of the doors.

How about yours?

I had the same experience since my other car has a $1500 system, 6 tweeters, so when I sat in the C43 for the first time I was sadly disappointed, here was my solution

Added a tweeter on all the door (total 4 tweeters.) WHAT A DIFFERENCE. When I block it with my hand and you totally hear the difference.

Thanks for the Reminder!

Unfortunately its going to rain this weekend. I'm hoping there will be some dry time to take a few photos of the event and my car.

Yup, mine are in the grilled area above the dash air vents. I just went and listened to make sure I wasn't imagining anything.

I thought it was in all C43s, but maybe particular to 1999?

Thanks, Scorchie. I think it probably is a standard issue for the 99 C43 to have the tweeters above the vents and not so for the 98.

Well, just have to contact a local stereo shop to add a pair.

Unfortunately, it rained at Lime Rock which prevented me from taking a lot of photos. I wound up not getting any photos of my car or stereo. I'm doing an autocross tomorrow and will take some photos of it then since the weather is going to be great!

I just wanted to let you guys know that I haven't forgotten!

your C43 should have the tweeter on the dash..

even C280 and c230k got them..

the reason you couldn't hear them clearly because the tweeter is actuall aimed to the front windshield.

Thanks. Found them. But I pressed my ears against them and still couldn't hear a thing. MB (Bose) did a rather poor job at branding it the "Premium Bose Stereo" option....... The W203s have them right at the ear level and they sound much better.

Why would they face the tweeter towards the windsheild and not towards the driver?

so the sound reflect to the windshield has wider "sweet spot"

"sweet spot" is refer to the area where you listen to the speaker at its best..

The original tweeter or bose tweeter are weaks since they dont have wide dispersion range...

These days there are a lot of aftermarket component that has wider dispersion range..

The stereo consists of:

Kenwood Head Unit
2 Kenwood Tweeters in the dash
6 Kicker Mid Range speakers, 1 in each door and 2 on the back deck
2 10 inch EV Acustical Speakers on the back deck
2 10 inch Kicker Competitions in the bandpass box
2 Precision Power AMPS

The Amps have enough cooling space.

damn, your car must have some crazy beat! how do you like having the 10"s on the rear decklid? do you have any problems with rattling?

The sound is very clear and precise. The 10's on the back deck are free air acustical speakers, which means they do not produce much bass. They are not subs. The are a full range speaker. I do not have any rattles with the stereo system, unless I'm using the wrong settings. I designed the stereo system to be self contained with in the vehicle. Which means most of the sounds stay in the car and not outside the car. Sure if I have the volume loud and the windows open you can hear me from blocks away, but I could have it on full volume with the windows closed and you couldn't hear it from 20 feet away.
