The wallet looks like it is going to get a slimming diet real fast.
Wonder why the idler pulley broke without any prior warning. Usually they start making noise before doing the nasty break

is this damage something to expect if this belt pulley shreds in pieces?
or does it only happen on high mileage cars?

i think the bearings just went and the pulley just seized. key is to change the pulleys before this happens ideally.

Probably something to check each time you have a service and when starting to wear, get it changed

do you think i could have bent anything inside the engine with the belt popping off like that? or do the valves run irrespective of the serpentine belt.

Don't sweat around the colar. You cannot overrev the engine. Have you never heard of electronic rev cutoff? That's what saves over reving the engine

wouldnt the belt throw off the timing of the belts thus bending?

NOOO! The timing chain is inside the block. The rubber serpentine belt drives the accessories on the front of the engine outside.

I have read that it is possible but a PITTA. Better removing the radiator and while you are in there, check the water pump, remove crank pulley and replace with a lighter one, which gives better response

Sometimes electronics are more clever than the human brain. No way will the tranny downshift from 4th to 2nd is the speed or corresponding revs are too high, unless you are using a manual transmission in which case you are going to end up with some bent valves

ZAYED,,
I didn't have to fully remove the radiator, but I did have to remove the fan shroud and the upper radiator support and pull the radiator up enough to tilt it forward a bit. It was very much a PITA.
