door wood trim piece

I don't have many issues with my C43, but here is a recurring one I've had for years...

My driver's door wood trim piece keeps getting loose and rattling. The first time this happened, it was replaced under warranty. The second time, I took the door panel off and tried to fiddle with the fasteners and ended up breaking a mounting peg off, so I had to buy a new one and replaced it myself. Now, it has loosened again, and the foremost mounting peg has broken off on its own, maybe from rattling around. So basically, it is now attached by 2 of the 3 pegs, so you can imagine how it is just sorta hanging there. It is getting looser everyday as well. I will take the door panel off this weekend and try to tighten up the little fasteners on the remaining pegs to try to tighten it up again, hopefully without breaking more pegs.

Has anyone else had this problem? In the end, ill probably have to pay up for yet another new trim piece.

i did try the double stick tape in the past, but it wouldnt stay stuck bc the trim piece is slightly more curved that the door (which may be why it keeps coming loose due to the tension created) and the door surface not being clean enough for the tape to stick properly (and i cant reach behind to clean it without probably breaking the rest of the plastic nubs that are holding the trim piece to the door). maybe ill give the adhesive a whirl.

I was considering it to make room for the c63, which I haven't found yet. In the end, I may just keep it bc I love the car still.

I had the same problem on my '99 C230 before I sold it. I did not want to go the glue and tape route as I knew that it would not hold over time. Take a soldering gun and reattach the peg by using heat to meld it back together. It mended it perfectly and I never had a problem since.

Cheers

great idea, now why didnt i think of that? i ended up just supergluing what was left of the peg (actually the wider base of the peg) to the back of the seat controller ... when i took the panel off, i noticed that the aforementioned base was about half a millimeter away from the back of the seat control, so i put a bead of superglue there, and it seems to have worked. if it comes off, then ill definitely try your method. (im sure my description is tough to understand, and i didnt take any pictures bc i figured my "fix" wasnt really worth pics and a writeup).
