Change to Mobil 1 5w-40 Oil For are C43s????????
I was thinking of getting 5w-40 oil and trying it out on my beast. Because I heard MB switched to that oil. And the oil is thicker plus my car hit 150k heres the link what Im talking about http://pitstopusa.com/i-8583189-mobi...-1-gallon.html At kragen this 4qt jug is $30 if I buy two its about $60 and some tax. So Instead of me paying around $90-100 for 0w-40 this is cheaper. I also looked if this oil is good for M113 engines it says it works heres the site http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/o...tedDocId=10119

I had the dealership throw in an oil change for free when they had my car for EVER. When I got it back I noticed the work order showed that they had used 5W-40 instead of the 0W-40 that I usually use. I asked about it and was told that they have switched to 5W-40. I have not noticed a difference and do not think there will be any issues as it is summer time so a thicker oil is ok. I do think the 0W-40 would be better for cold starts as it is thinner.

Guys, this has been hit a bit on the PL and here.
The 5W-40 ESP, Emissions System Protection, has less impact on the emissions system which the auto maker must warrantee for 10yrs, than the 0W-40 European Formula.
The reason it has less impact is because the additives are reduced. Those additives are the wear inhibitors.
Check out this FAQ http://www.mobiloil.com/usa-english/...AQs.aspx#FAQs5
I would love to run the 0W-50 but the high levels of wear inhibitors would hurt the cats (also mentioned in the FAQ)..
They are using 0W-40 at the AMG Academy at the end of last year. I have 100k on my car and plan to stick with it.

If saving money while maintaining the 229.5 requirement is the goal, Quaker State Euro Full Synthetic 5W-40 Motor Oil, 5-Quart is $22.97 at Walmart. Made by Shell. It's on the BEVO and gets high regards on Bob is the Oil Guy.
