How much drop after lowering.

Decided to start a new thread on this much discussed subject. JDITOM had replied on a different thread that after installing Euro springs/Bilsteins his center of wheel to fender edge measurement was 33cm on front & 35cm on rear. 33cm still leaves a considerable wheel gap. My current stock measurement is 38cm on front & 36cm on rear. So, if I installed Euros I would drop 5cm (2 inch) on front & only 1cm (about 3/8 in) on rear. I don't know why I am sitting so high in front. Maybe I am beating this to death but it seems measurements are more revealing than pictures. If others would like to add some measurements I believe it could be quite informative.
Thanks to JDITOM, very helpful.

Dont forget about spring pads.
I used the thinest, #1 for front and rears. They are only 5mm thick.

My C43 has stock springs cut 1 coil front and rear, with bilstein shocks and #1 pads front and back

Front = 31cm
Rear = 29.5cm (I think this could use #2 or #3 pads to get back to a more slightly raked forward look...)

Rides perfect and basically no rub on e55 monos

How much Drop

Hey,

I was hoping to get some response on how much drop did you get after lowering springs installed. Come on guys, give me some numbers. The issue is what is the drop with Euro springs as opposed to aftermarket springs. Let's throw some numbers out there, only way to compare; pictures are great but don't really show the actual benefits of a drop, need measurements.

From what I have read, the euro springs will give you about a 1" drop. The Vogtlands will give you 1.4"+ drop

hey i just got my car back today with euro springs installed. I love them!

i have pictures of my hand comparing the fender well gap before and after, i ran out of time to do real measurements with a tape. i will post the pics tomorrow but i would say the front is a solid 1.75-2" drop, maybe more and the rear about 1.5". at first i was concerned it would not lower much, but it made a huge difference.

i used the 5mm front pad and 9mm rear pad (stock USA c43 pads) and stock shocks. the car is lowered to a point where the fender gap is equal all the way around the tire, which is exactly what i wanted. to me its a perfect sport look, if you want it to look slammed i would get the bilstein shocks and vogtland springs, i think that setup looks nice but wasnt what i was going for.

pics soon.

With the KW Variant 2 suspension installed recently and 18" Mono's, I have the following measurements:
Front left: 328mm
Front right: 328mm
Rear left: 326mm (to be increased to 33mm)
Rear right: 330mm
I find the stance perfect and probably the best height for all type of road surfaces

here are my pics, i have scaled the photos based on rim diameter to get them as close as comparison as possible to each other, due to the shadows i drew the red line in at the bottom of the fender and top outer edge of the tire. Just looking at the gaps in the close up photos IMO isnt representative of how much of a drop it was, esp in the front.

the overall photo shows the stance better.

Also keep in mid these were taken just hours after the install, so they may settle in a bit lower.

I can try to measure the actual distance from rim center point to middle of fender later.

hmmm, still looks pretty high to me, as my euro version looked lower standard, but I could be wrong.

Did you by chance measure the lengths of the springs before mounting them on the car? I posted the measurements in my thread: C43 Euro suspensions specifications

Yeah that does look to be a little high! I run Bilstein shocks and H&R's. Looks great and amazing handling. I have contemplated #1 pads but do not want to rub.

U.S. setup, it is absolutely perfect with this combo and stock pads. I have hit some serious bumps too! I might be a little pessimistic running #1 pads opposed to stock. I did find it odd how the Euro versions were lower from factory or it looks that way at least.

Euro ride height is 1½ finger gap front and 2 finger gap rear when your springpads are settled in after 10 years of wear n tear driving with #1 pads.

Install new #1 pads upfront car will raise to a 2 finger gap, gives you an even level stance.

no i didnt, i have been so busy and only had the car about 2 weeks now, so even though i wanted to get all scientific about the springs and drop height, etc i just didnt have time to do it all. But they are the part numbers from the main euro spring thread in the forum.

after looking at your thread i do know that they did have the yellow and blue stripes respectively on the 2 sets.

It is an improvement over stock but still looks rather high for my liking. To each his own and as long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters. I will post before and after pics along with measurements when my Vogtland/Koni drop is completed next weekend.

Cheers

NKCTB,

Please post your measurements when your installation is completed. Got some numbers on the Euro's & I am looking for 32-33cm & the Euro's are not dropping that much. Looking forward to hearing from you. Also, are you planning on using any camber adjusters such as Kmac?

Have a look some of my posts in my C43's 'build thread' specifically at this post:

https://mbworld.org/forums/4351722-post87.html

But also the posts around pages 3 and 4. I used Kmac bushings up front to get the adjustability (but they squeak), number 5 pads up front and number 4 pads in the rear, with Vogtland springs and Bilstein Sport shocks. Perfect IMO. Looks like DRBC43's and Kowalski's actual Euro market cars in ride height.
