New to MB and AMG
Hello all.
Gonna be picking up W202 95 C36 AMG in san diego that my aunt gave me. It has 109k miles. Since I'm new to MB and AMG, especially this particular car. Is there something I should look for (problem wise) when it comes to repairs. The car is completely bone stock and they bought it from japan when her husband was stationed in osaka japan. I'm still undecided about keeping it or flipping it since I already have a '99 GTi VR6 as a project car. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
thnx

The biggest potential issue in a c36 is the engine wiring harness. If it hasn't been replaced already, then now (or soon) would be a good time to do so. Otherwise, there really isn't much that can go wrong with it. Current c36 owners can chime in better.

Congrats on getting the c36. Relatively low mileage too. Daily drive it for a few weeks and see how you like it before making a decision to flip it or not; you just might fall in love with it.

appreciate the heads up. which part of the engine harness? (sub-harness, main harness, coil or injector harness). Also, would this car still be an OBD1? cuz OBD2 didn't go into effect into cars starting @ 1996.

car finally made it to texas:
![](http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y242/8gti9/IMG_5626.jpg)
called a couple of dealers today and providing them with my vin#, I got 2 different engines from 2 dealers
according to MB of Austin I have a M109, then I called a MB dealer back home in Tacoma WA, they told me that I have a M104.941. Now from what I've read on these particular cars the M104.941 IS the C36 engine code, correct me if I'm wrong. Like I said before I am completely new to MB. Does it matter that the car is from japan? The whole booklet of owners manual is in japanese so there's no help there.
If anyone in this forum is MB savvy, pls chime in. My car looks like a regular C280 but according to the badging on the trunk, it's a C36. Also if there's a way to confirm a stamping on the block for the engine code I would like to know where it is. The parts guy at 1 of the dealers I called said "sir I do not know that, i don't work on cars". Jeez, talk about product knowledge!
I pulled my vin# from this site: http://www.auto-parts.spb.ru/cat/cat...&client=dr2000 and it gave 2 models c280 and c36 amg.
thnx mike

hard to tell, it's a c280 or a c36 with non amg bumpers, should say amg on the cluster, and on the intake 3.6. shoot some more pics, we can find this out easily, pics from cluster/engine/exhaust.

i hope you didn't get ripped off by seller claiming it's an AMG.
why is there a standard MB front bumper?
maybe car was in a fender bender accident?
what are your rear end exhaust pipes?
are they chrome with AMG stamp onatop?
do you have an AMG cluster?
don't see ANY AMG side skirts!!
what does rear bumper look like standard or AMG style?
did you have the standard AMG rim in the trunk?
there should be 5 AMG monoblock rims.
sorry to say this seems not to be a true AMG car.
c36 engine is based on c280 sport.

ok, looked at the cluster and engine bay this morning and it does not say "AMG" on them so I guess that pretty much answers my question. It's not a AMG car.
No I don't think I got ripped off by the seller. My aunt gave me this car for FREE and she also paid for the shipping to Texas from San Diego. Even though this car is not what I was hoping for, how often does a relative give you a good running vehicle let alone a MB w/ 109k miles. All it needs are the regular maintenance parts, ie; air filter, plugs, fuel filter, belts, etc... AMG or not I might just keep it since it's a gift. It can be my wife's daily driver to work or errands since she does not like driving the GTi VR6.
thnx for all the help and pointers, I really appreciated it.

I thought you said you were getting a c36 in threadstarter?
Missed out on auntie info, sorry about that.
happy motoring, give your relative a good thought now and then when you drive your car as an appreciation for this gift.

No worries. I'm just glad to figure out what vehicle I have now. I guess from now on I'll start posting on the W202 (non C36) forums from now on.
