C36 in winter (montreal)

Hi, I'm thinking of using my C36 during the winter.

I want to know if I need to buy a block heater to start.

temperature at night can go -20, max -30, and in the morning most of the time it's form -10 to -25

all in Celsius

what you're thinking is good for your engine.
using block heater for engine is good even in summer.
all first starts are cold starts, with an engine heater you reduce wear.
you have similar temperature in Canada as in Scandinavia, -25 i fuukin' cold when you start the car!
I wish there was a heater for C43

I agree, he probably doesn't need it, but it will be much better for the car. Is there a special heater for the c36 of universel?

Personally I would not use a 36 in winter. Think of the salt and the metal cancer which will be developing If you do, use it only on dry road conditions

I don't use mine in winter, but if I would use it . I would spray it of after every drive. And protect the underside of the car, don't know the name of the stuff that you can use for this I'm sure kowalski knows what I mean. And with snow the c36 is horrible if you aren't an experience driver I myself drive a w202 c180 in winter much easier.

rustproofing cars with underbody wax, called Dinitrol it's British gunk I think?
I had my car sealed with this shiiit, doors, fenders, trunk, hood and underbody, it's all in black wax!
It's pritty costly to do this, but worth it if your car is a keeper.
If you choose gold package they seal everything on your car.

don't forget to check rubber seals ontop your 4 doors, cancer loves to grow there!!
fold your rubber and inspect metal for rust.
best thing is to buy waxoil from MB to treat as a safety from future rust if you don't already have it?
and I promise you, you will eventually have hidden cancer on these doors

hey buddy how ya doing? Mine has just a little at one of the doors. I want to respray the car within 2years. should I get my c36 sealed after the respray? I feel so lucky for not having a rusty on my c36. (it has a little at one door, will fix this soon. respraying is expensive as ;p so is it worth it to seal? I don't use the car in winter, however in summer the car is outside when it rains. no garage

i'm ok under the circumstances like pi$$ing weather outside my window.
thanx for asking.

if you wanna keep your beloved AMGeeeeeeee, it might be worth for you to treat it with TLC like undercoating.
hopefully your roadsalt isn't fukked up as the salt in mongo Sweden is very corrosive, here almost all Benz cars are dreaded with cancer rot

Dinitrol is one brand, Tectyl is another brand, there are several don't remember them, check shops that sells autoparts and ask them where they can point you the right direction.

you can use turtle rustmaster or turtle rustconversion to get rid of the cancer on your door, then next day paint with rust stop paint, when you get your car repainted tell painter to remove the rust on your door.
however it's pretty cold outside now and painting is not a good idea in cold weather.
you need a heated garage to work so paint can dry.
fold rubber and put a screwdriver in between to lift rubber when you work.
or you can try with an oily rag to rub off the rusty surface if there isn't too big of a damage.

where you going to store your car during winter?
outside is no good, brakes will rust like hell and more likely your underbody will have a beating with more rustspots from wet weather parked on one place for several months and not driving it's no good, can you rent a carport with roof over your head?

did you get a new rear axle fixing your problem?
did you change anything?

unfortunatly haven't fixed it yet, that's for march/april I'm saving up. Haven't used the car alot, my mechnaic says it aint to big of a problem to drive it before intsalling a new rear axcel, it only eats some more tires. I'm going to rent a garage soon for my car for everyone that doesn't know what I'm talking about my rear subframe needs to be replaced. I really really like this car so much fun to drive.

On topic:[you can use turtle rustmaster or turtle rustconversion to get rid of the cancer on your door, then next day paint with rust stop paint, when you get your car repainted tell painter to remove the rust on your door.
however it's pretty cold outside now and painting is not a good idea in cold weather] I know I'm a little late this year for fixing this, however when I store it shouldn't get more worse it's a tiny spot. I will NEVER ;p use the car when the roads are full of salt. Thanks for the reply Kowalski I'm convised about the need of protecting my car after the respray, why not doing it right

You do use the c43 in winter? how do you get traction lol?

eclectic assortment of cars
If there isn't an actual factory block heater, or provision for an aftermarket block heater, the next best option is to use an oil pan heater - I have a Wolverine one on my C43 (but it won't be winter driven anymore), and I just installed one on my Audi too:

http://www.wolverineheater.com/

Then I would also get a battery heater - generally should be available at any auto parts store. Again, it's something I've got on my winter driven cars too.

My C36 is my winter car and this is when it typically gets used, it has Michelin Pilot A/S up front and specific winter tires in rear. Great fun and not too bad w/ this setup. Do not think we use salt on the roads here in VA but it has held up well and I do wash it occasionally too during this period. We do not get quite that cold here so I am not the best when it comes to block heaters...good luck though!

I drove my c43 in winter 1 season, with very good winter tires.
They were completly finish after 3 months in the snow.
Very , very bad winter car, too much torque!

tourqe is fun in the snow on a large shopping mall parking.
rear wheel drive is fun when you wanna play, but could be dangerous if you do something wrong at the wrong place/time.
front or all wheel drive is the best for winter seasons

I believe the 43's have a bit more torque, my ASR is always turned off, winter tires and that's it. I drove it through some serious stuff too. Does take some practice but once you get it down the car is amazing.

Being able to turn off ASR makes all the difference or the computers will just cut all the power.

Thumbs up

I've used my C43 for the last two terrible winters back east. The C was unstoppable with winter tires. I drove by 4 by 4's and they had the look of.

Driven when it's wet, when it drys, when it snow and when there's ice. zoom zoom zoom...
