s2000 with all the botons Vs. C43 Almost stock

A couple of days ago I was driving and I see a nice s2000 all modifed with suspension and exshaust. I gave him some gas. On the red light I asked him what he had in his car. He said all the botons. Im pretty sure s2000 have around 240hp stock. With all the botons its close to 280-300hp??? And its probably lighter then the c43. So we decided to give it a shot and up to around 40mhp he kept up. I pulled around 3 cars. I was suprised how fast c43s are haha. My grandpa merc is older and I have around 160k lol.

I believe you really have to go forced induction to get more power out of the S2000. At 240 hp out of a 2.0 or 2.2 liter engine, the specific output is already very high from the factory. You aren't going to squeeze much more out with bolt-ons.

I know Saabotuer has one, so he could probably provide some better input.

Very hard to squeeze more power out of the F20C or F22C, the two engines with which the S2000 was equipped. As you can tell by the engine codes, the first is a 2.0L, the second is the 2.2L. 2.0 for MY2000-2003, 2.2 for every year after that. The 2.0L revs to 9000 (like what I have), the 2.2 revs to 8000 only. Power and torque are basically the same, just at different peaks in the rev range. Naturally aspirated, there are some headers and intakes that can gain power, but we're talking miniscule here - like 15hp at the most. And that is with the top end header, say Toda or J's Racing. But critically, all of that extra power and torque is made at the peak of the rev range, not down low like the AMGs.

The S2k's advantage is in its light weight and nimbleness. Compare the C43 to the S2000 in the corners and it's not even close. The S2000 is meant to carve corners, not leap off the line.

Eric's right though, to get appreciably more power from the S2000 you need forced induction. There are a multitude of kits out there, whether turbo or supercharged.

300hp naturally aspirated on the S2000 would be quite a feat. It's doable, but we're talking about cams and the highest end exhaust and header, possibly individual throttle bodies too, possibly bottom end work too. Quite expensive.

some bolt-ons actually can rob the S2k of power. There was a LOT of engineering time spend on intake and exhaust to create a smooth power curve and loads of top-end horsepower/liter. As GSX&Saab said, the S2k is about maxed without forced induction. They are quick though, I almost went to one from my Mx-5 before I saw the C55.

Oh wow pretty interesting info. It looked pretty moded. He definitely had sway bars I could see them and probably coil overs. My merc kept up to him on turns haha. I have billie sports and vogtlands. It sounded really good too. Not like a normal s2000 with a nice exhaust sound.

Sounds like the most significant mod missing on that s2k was the driver mod.

They are quick stock with a competent driver- I have seen consistent high 13s/14flat at the track with the right pilot. They corner incredibly well too, good on you for sticking with him in the turns!

I've had the exact same run with my S2000 against a C43. Needless to say he smoked me
