C43 JUNKYARD TRIPS
Today was my 4th trip to the junkyard that has a 1999 C43. This car is in better shape than mine beside the fact that it was totaled since the frame was damaged in an accident. The C43 owner is the owner of the yard and they are really nice folks so today was the first time they let me get up on the car on my own to remove the B-pillar door cover. (I enjoyed that!)
At first I had no idea what I was doing, but eventually I used my car to practice since my cover was damaged by an chimpanzee that used to own it.
The same chimp and a couple of lemurs friends are the same animals that installed way to large speakers on the back tray and tweeters that were housed in restaurant napkins to prevent them from bouncing around.
(Got lucky though they didn't cut a huge freakin' hole in the body and that I could find the missing pieces at the yard)
On the 3rd trip to the yard I got:
-rear Bose speakers
-housing (speaker sits in these)
-housing stoppers (they mount in the trunk under the housing)
-inner covers (under the Bose labeled outer covers)
-tweeters w covers and the wire plug from the car (which had been cut)
-front C43 labeled floor mats (they ended up giving a new bottle of Awesome cleaner to clean them. Even though they are a bit tattered on the edge, they came out great.)
TOTAL: $130. (today they didn't charge me for the B-pillar cover.)
QUESTION: Is the C43 wired for video? why do we have a coax cable in the storage under the arm rest?
On the 2nd trip to the yard I got:
-trunk Liner
-tools + tray
-the housing that goes over the spare
-engine cover (w/o the star)
TOTAL: $100.
On the 1st trip to the yard I got:
-front doors wood trim w hardware (2)
-drivers door speaker cover (1)
-rear Bose labeled speaker covers (2)
TOTAL: $240.

Pretty cool that you've found one in a junkyard.

I guess he remembered so he gave me tools and told me to go get it my self and it was free... free is good!
Got lucky this week, til yesterday I had an aftermarket key fob and a blank key shaft.
The key fob I bought on ebay for $25 finally broke, the whole fob its decent quality but the little switch to remove the key shaft fell off. I was at the dealer to purchase coolant and the guy noticed I was having trouble removing the key as I was contemplating having the blank shaft cut. So he got a new key fob and swapped it with mine, I mean this thing is genuine MB, he probably got it from a key drop off that wasn't working, but he didn't have to do it. All free of charge. At that point I did order a second set of keys. The additional second key shaft and cutting it was $30. The second key and shaft set $250.
It's good to know I have a second set of keys.

Finally connected the amp and the bose sounds awesome. I have a vibration in the tray from the bass, but I just need to work on how I installed the speakers, so little space to work with back there...

so far I've got:
Steering wheel
Speaker covers and accessories
Tweeters
Front wheel well cover
C43 floor mats
Amp wire loom
Trunk Tool Kit w tray
Jack
Trunk Liner
Passenger B-pillar cover
Front Door interior wood trim
anyhow, don't react to prices that seem to stiff, they have their own market for some parts, for instance stereos are expensive, an amps also too expensive, but some parts can be cheaper. I like these guys, they treat me well and I do the same.
If you don't like the service over the phone, just ask for an email and they will reply.
Car has no bumpers and skirts and no center console.
good luck.

Next time I'm in LA, I'll hit you up! The weather finally took a turn for the better here in Missouri and I gave my old gal a much needed bath.
BTW, I picked up a new, OEM set of C43 floor mats from my local dealer. She had to order them from Chicago (main distribution center for the midwest?), but they are still available. I bought a set and shipped them to user Kowalski as well.
