Greetings from Michigan.

Just picked up a 95 c36 a few weeks back and will be getting it back to shape in the next few months. I have been tinkering with Mercedes since I was in high school but this is my first AMG. Some pictures from the day I bought it and one after a few things were done to it so I could start daily driving it to work. Budget is tight so non crucial changes ("sweet grill") is given very little priority. I will be focusing on suspension and possibly exhaust over the next few weeks. The front control arm bushings are completely shot and I already got urethane replacements In the mail.

hope these links work

After a little love. The grill will be replaced by an OEM eventually. I have grown fond of the projectors so they will be cleaned up and stay

I agree, the grille without the Star is sooooo much better and a good steam clean of the engine bay will help you see that you have an engine under the hood and avoid getting all your fingers very dirty

Yeah I painted it black so its less noticeable but it still looks tacky an has to go eventually. I have done some mods already like deleting the mechanical fan and adding an adjustable thermostat to control the aux fans as the primaries, and its working very well. I will be deleting two of the pulleys and going with a shorter belt.

I saw this car on craigslist, too. I sometimes like to pull up C36's out there and dream...

Nice find! Glad to hear it's at a happy home.

Update
Yeah, I got the car for what I consider a great price. In my native Florida, I don't think it would have lasted a week on CL. I honestly thought it was a C280 with an AMG sticker slapped on the trunk when I saw what the guy wanted for it. I am sure he got it for next to nothing with a bad wiring harness and just rebuilt the harness with the intention to flip it. It seems like his harness job was decent from my inspection.

I never see older Mercedes around here, and when I do it seems like its people who don't really want to be driving them, must be the footprint the big 3 have around here. I really enjoy driving and working on these cars, They are designed so well that it makes it so simple to diagnose and fix. Plus the fact I do all of the wrenching myself I save a lot of money.

ANYWAYS...

I deleted the non-functioning fan clutch, installed an adjustable electric fan thermostat and cleaned up the brushes on the front fans (the front fans provide cooling now). The temp stays steady between 80-90 degree mark, they only turn on in traffic, and only pull around 14 amps from the electrical system ... The amount of room is great and since I am hardcore DIY'er I can have the belt out in 30 seconds if need be. I also deleted the fan clutch pulley (bearing was bad and made the car sound like it was powered by a family of crickets) and the plastic accessory pulley. overall less drag on the belt system and no expensive, useless pulleys to replace later on. The new, shorter belt is for a 2002 Chrysler town and country ( you can see the p/n on the pics) I realize this is not a mod for everyone but I have done it on other cars before and the benefits to me outweigh the possible problems that could arise, plus I would have easily spent $150-$200 on a new fan clutch and fan clutch pulley.

I had to bend this heater pipe since it was in the way of the new belt, trusty MAP torch did the trick

While I was in there I hunted down a weird "slap" sound coming from around the alternator, I was concerned it was the timing chain tensioner or the chain guides from where the sound was coming from, but it turned out to be the rear bearing in the alternator. Thankfully this is a $7 dollar bearing that most auto supply stores have in stock.

My next move is test pipes and then maybe washing the car (I have a bad habit of never washing my vehicles)

Get the engine bay cleaned too
It really is more pleasurable to work in there where you can see the parts and not having to scrape the gunk off to see and get to the nuts and bolts

I know but I don't like pressure washing engines so I might just let it get cleaned up as I go taking stuff off.

Sweet! I'll take either! But I need the whole assembly, not just the insert. PM or message me the details. I really appreciate it! I also need an early cluster since the car came with a non-amg one, its also from a 4 cyl since the tachometer goes way past 7k! (Impressing friends with racekor engine!)
