Alittle help needed PLEASE

OK so my son and i replaced the head gasket on his 95 c36 . Job went well
until we drove it ! Its a rocket ship up to 3000 rpm then it flat lines! cam timeing is dead on what worries me is the damn advance what is the correct way to set it? all the way to d.s. or to p.s. Any help would be greatly appreciated .

More accurate explanation of symptoms required.

I did head-gasket job in my 1994 C280 as well, and it had similar result. Operated normally until about 3000 RPM but suddenly all power flatlined. I didn't have time to deal with it and went back to college.

My brother stayed home during the week and test drove it a few times to try and diagnose. He said at one point is just mysteriously started working on its own. To this day I have no idea what it was, but it never happened again.

This is third time driving it. Just no power gains @ 3000 or above rpm its a slug!guess i should get a manual to c the proper way to set the vvt advance on cam

Before you start messing with actual timing in a rare, hand-built AMG engine, perhaps check health of sensors that detect timing: crank position sensor or cam position sensor? They could be retarding timing because they're damage/not connected/not installed right.

You are F@#$%^g kidding me right? As i stated we replaced the head gasket there fore
we had to set cam timing. And furthermore the hand built amg engine is not much different than the eighty thousand dollar twin turbo motor in my drag car ! There all nuts n bolts!!

Howd you set the timing? It's different between the regular m104 and the amg m104. Can't use the timing marks on the cam gears.

Besides, with timing off that badly wouldnt it be very very rough running at all rpms?

tdc compression the ehx. side 4mm hole lined up the int. side was off a little marked cam position gear position. but im not sure the way the intake side advance should have been turned. S o the timing would b ok at low rpm but if advance is off it wont b ok at higher rpm. Just trying to find out the proper position. Who knows the trans might b junk .got the car as a basket case trying to revive it to save a great car.

Crying shame there's very little info out there about timing on the 3.6l M104. Best of luck, I hope you save that C36!
