Intermittant starting issue

Recently my 99 c43 has developed an intermittent starting issue.Turn key fires up than dies..sometimes will idle for say 5-7 sec than dies.Sometimes needs a few attempts than idles fine. This happens regardless if car is at operating temp or cold start.Car runs great and pulls hard.CPS sensor was replaced several years ago under recall. No CEL.Any ideas? Thanks!

CPS goes out every 30k miles or so according to my buddy who is a MB Mechanic. So, if you are in that range, ya might need a new one.

Mine suddenly did this at a gas station once. Starts fine, idles for a split second, dies. It did it roughly 5 times and had me freaking out, but suddenly started up fine and has been fine ever since. I guess that's CPS? There's no CEL.

Did you get your's changed, Shawn? Did that fix it?

My money is on the security system as I have had this happen alot also but only ever happens with my new key. Im yet to prove it but evidence is strong as it hasnt happend once in the last 4 months with the original key. Its like everybody shakes hands and the engine starts but suddenly bob the key realises jim(ecu)is sleeping with bobs wife monica(eis) and the party is off.

Cps have different symptoms, engine will crank and not start, or start but when hot it will not resart until cooled, or if in slow traffic sensor heats up enough engine will die. Depends on how far gone the sensor is.

Hmm, slightly differerent there. Mine would start and die smoothly as the rpm dropped from startup,it would never idle for 5+ seconds.

Would the fuel pump cause other symtoms like rough idle or start?

rough start, engine cranking but not starting, starting but very rough idle then dying would all be symptoms of a bad fuel pump.
