Destroyed the front bumper.

Let's just say that it's colder here than it's been since I got the car and the tires were still a little cold...ESP switched off...power slide got a little more oversteer than I intended...hit the brakes to bring the car down...landed in the ditch. Results, front bumper on the passenger side is pretty well shattered. Thankfully the airbags stayed put.

I know the bumper frame costs ~$100. The question that I am scared to know the answer to is how much is the bumper itself going to cost? That's an AMG special and I know it's going to hurt. Then I've got to get it painted. Oh well. Anyone know where I can find a used one, or have a guess on how much a new one is going to cost?

Man, I feel you on the bumper issue. I recently had my car lowered and wasn't used to driving a lowered car. As I was parking, I didn't realize I went over one of those cement blocks they put in front of parking spaces. As I was leaving and going into reverse, the bumper was caught on it and it took my whole front bumper cover off the vehicle! I was almost in tears!

Well believe it or not. I did exactly what you are talking about less than 24 hours after I got the car. That time all I had to replace was the bumper frame. This time it's the rest of it.

I called the stealership (and found out why everyone calls it the "Stealership") this morning and they want $1400 just for the bumper cover!!! That's unbelievable. Anyone got one laying around that they don't need?

that is a lot...but don't expect it to be too cheap if it's made of fiberglass resin (at least, that's what i remember being told on our c36)...

I was hit by an other car on my back bumper a few months ago. Just a small hit but I decided to replace the bumper (no other damages).

Believe it or not the job costs 3K$CA or around 2200$US. I believe that the part was around 1100$US and its was not even pre painted...

Hope you'll find a used one...

Update.

The fog light mounting ear was broken off but I think good ole JB Weld fixed that for me. The wheel well splash shield was shattered but that's a standard C-Class part and was only $30.

Tom Hanson's price for the bumper cover is $1128 plus $40 for shipping! The stealership quoted me $1480.

Hey J
sorry to hear about your mishap. i found this for you and maybe it would be helpful.

http://www.craigslist.org/eby/car/19128299.html

this is a replica C43 body kit made of fiberglass and looks like it's 4 pieces for half of the cost of the original front bumper. what i would keep in mind is that, mostly all fiberglass kits needs slight modification for it to fit properly and most decent body shop can do them very well. before going this route, i would also take the time to call back Tom and see if the bumpers come prepainted. if it does, then you can easily install the bumper in no time. although the fiberglass body kit is cheap, consider the installtion and the painting cost associated with it, who knows, after said and done, if the fiberglass kit costs just much as the original after you add the cost of painting and install, i would just go ahead with the original and this can be done yourself to save the cost of installation. knwo what i mean? anyways take a look and see if that helps ya.

So here's the end of the story.

Ended up getting a brand new AMG original bumper cover at employee discount for $950 and spent ~$300 to get a good paint job. Put it back together (with 100watt fog light bulbs ) on Friday and it's as good as new. Total cost $1250. That's a pretty decent amount of mod money but it's about half what it could have cost me and it's done right. Actually looks better now than it did before.

Now to figure out what the next mod will be...

Hey man...feel your pain on the bumper issue, not sure if you replaced it yet but here is some info......I'm not sure where you stand on keeping it "all original" but check out this site...they sell a bumper that looks like an AMG bumper but at a lot less cost to you... www.erebuni.net/ge/mercew202.htm

Hmmm, I like that, is it a std issue part? More light is always better
Any overheating problems with the 100w's?
Thanks
