Funny you ask this, I'm wondering the same thing. My sunroof is starting to sound like it's hanging up a bit. What's the proper preventative maintenance?Originally Posted by vlad957

same with mine, sometime works but 20% of the times doesn't so I have to crank it by hand.

I found some info out. Mercedes carry's some special sunroof grease but its pretty pricey. Its called Gleitpast Grease. Here is the part number # 001-989-46-51. But people are saying to email this guy rusty@mbparts.com and he can hook it up for a better price.
Also if anyone wants to buy the tub heres the website, http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...art%3A%20PASTE

https://mercedessource.com/store/sun...and-pad-grease I found this Mercedes sunroof kit for about $14 dollars. But it says manual sunroofs. But I think this should be fine too.

Explorehttps://mercedessource.com/store/ear...and-repair-kit here's the mercedes automatic sunroof kit. But this one is about $45 dollars I think it's worth it. It comes with all the tools to grease your sunroof. Instead of paying $500 - 1000k for a new sunroof. $45 bucks is fine for me.

Thanks for those links Vlad957, I will be looking into proactive maintenance rather than reactive.. Like you said, repairs or replacement can cost hundreds, if not a thousand or so to replace.Originally Posted by vlad957

Try white lithium grease. That stuff is awesome. And stays on a very long time, I have an E-320 2003, never had a problem with my sunroof. What I did have a problem with once was when it would rain my head liner and front passenger floor rub would get wet, I unclogded the drain channels on my sunroof and problem solved
People are saying don't use lithium grease because it can start getting runny on a hot day. And people say that dust sticks to it. Every where I read people say to be really careful with the stuff you use to lubricate the sunroof. I read that the special grease that mb offers prevents dust and dirt from sticking to it. HERE'S a PDF file on which parts to clean and grease on our power sunroofs. IT looks fairly easy. Just use a soft micro fiber cloth or Terry cloth to clean the rails.
