Hey guys,
I haven't really been active on these forums since I had a 2004 clk55 2 years ago, prior to that I had 2 w202 c280's but always wanted a C43. As of Now I have a M3 that I'm in process of selling. Anyhow, I have been looking off and on for a C43 for a month or two, I want to scoop a good one up before they are impossible to find, they are getting tough to find well maintained, I finally came across one that sounds like what I'm looking for. Its a 1999 Silver/Black fully stock with 99,000 miles, 2 owner car, that according to the owner has been dealer maintained its entire life. Aside from the transmission..Are there any things that I should be aware of needing replacement around this mileage? and near future? Here are some pics I got from the seller, Im going to check it out Monday and if all goes well driver her home.
Thanks for any help fellas!

Why on earth would you assume it needs a new transmission? They are bulletproof when properly maintained. Same one from r129 sl600.
That looks like an exceptionally good specimen. I bought two C43s, one with 240k and the other with 194k and the original transmissions are tip top. I bought them knowing they each have very minor issues, but the cars have proven to be very good purchases.
I have one big question. Why go from an M3 to a C43? They are wildly different beasts. The 43 won't really outperform but its remarkably pleasing in its own ways.

Thanks Sulaco, Maybe I worded the question wrong, I have heard there can be issues with the transmissions on these cars but its more prevalent on the 98's. I believe this transmission to be in tip top shape based on the seller saying its been regularly serviced. Im glad to hear you feel its a nice example, I feel the same although I haven't seen it in person yet.
To answer your second question, Prior to having my M3 I had my 04 clk55 for 2 years and regret now selling it..there is nothing like a AMG V8. I purchased the M3 because I had one way back and had the urge to have a manual transmission car, I dumped a bunch of money into it but realized it just doesn't fit my lifestyle now. I loved the W202's I had in the past, they are such solid cars and they just feel special, not sure why. I should also mention I ride motorcycles and after a 3 year break I recently bought a new one in January, So having the M3 is really just over kill. Last but not least I've always wanted a C43.

Can't argue with that. C43 is a great personal, performance sedan and it's a piece of MB and AMG history. It's not a red light puller, but does shockingly well on the interstate. Its got ample torque and tall gears. The sound of that amg m113 v8 is a thing of real beauty. Simply a breath taking, but reserved exhaust note. I don't dig ultra loud exhaust and keep mine stock.

I agree with Sulaco regarding the transmission. If it has been maintained, i.e. ATF flush and filter change, it is pretty much bullet proof and should cause you no problems. The 98' MY where the ones which could have had some problems, but for 99' the problems (bearings) had been solved. OK knowing that the vehicles today have a certain age, I always drive them with respect.
Enjoy the 43 if you decide to jump on the train.

Okay guys, thanks for all the help...a little update, I went to look at the car today. Everything checked out, it has been very well cared for and the best bonus was that It has factory xenons! I drove it and its very solid, the car is near perfect. I would have had it right now but the seller didn't have the title on him as we met at his office. He is driving it down to me tomorrow for us to do all paperwork and take delivery. I'm pretty excited!!
