1998 C43 Possible Euro Car?
this car must be a canadian car imported to US.
www.detali.ru
is a VIN check site for MB cars
you can see what kind of options your car have from factory.
make sure transmission is healthy and it has records of maintanence.
these cars has some expensive parts like rotors and transmission if it breaks, other than that it shares parts with cheaper non AMG cars.
make sure harmonic balancer is replaced on recall.
also check for broken o2 sensors, bad MAF, CPS sensor, rust, bad belt tensioner + idler pulley, pixle problems with lcd display on climate head unit.
other than that w202 is a great car, more solid than many equivalent cars.
service records are important.
can you show a picture of centre console?
if it's wood, it's an NA market car.
if it's a fake carbon console, this is a grey import car, this car will give you some extra rareness if you buy it?
good luck finding a good one

The rest of this can be explained by it being a Canada car and all the Celsius stuff is a setting you can change if you know how, same with instrument cluster.
However, not having OBD is a huge clue.
Pop the hood and pull the AMG motor cover. Is there a black pump thing on the front, in the center above the belt area? Or a metal bracket that looks like it held a round black electric pump?
Edit: your VIN is not long enough, by the way.
Also, US VINS for MB start with WDBHA

Sulaco, can you take a snapshot of your OBD2, I don't think I have this on my car?
I've never seen it on my car.
thanx

must be very rare to import a car from europe to US.
did you see any japanese stickers in engine room?
if you own it, you are very fortunate to have parktonic on this c43, no c43's in US had this option.
car seems in need of some TLC, it's going to cost you to restore her to your standards.
trunklock is pushed in a bit, when this fail it costs a few hundred bucks to replace, best thing to do is to use the blade key otherwise it will corrode inside.

they dont.. ive been working at benz in '92 till '03 and never seen this.
( i might post some pics from my C43 and from a friend who's got parktronic, folding mirrors, sunroof, sun blind rear and pop trunk switch. both cars delivered in Holland.)

Great find! I hope you buy it and join us while you restore it. It's not that costly to restore. Many of the parts are standard 98-2000 C class parts. Except engine parts, which are the same as 98-2002 E430/S430/CLK430 cars.

But let me stress this:
DO NOT GET RID OF YOUR FRONT OR REAR BUMPER
They are getting damn near impossible to find. And finding one with parktronic cutouts? They have to come from europe.
I had to source a new bumper for my car (no parktronic) and had to have one shipped here by fellow forum member cm60k from Abu Dhabi.
You can buy new bumper hangers and new bumper reinforcement to correct your hanging bumpers, but do not let those skins or fogs go unless they can't be saved!
The C55 badge on the back caught my eye and the euro stuff, but once i ran the VIN thru Mercedes Database, it came out as a regular C43 in the data sheet and i was kinda... crap, i thought it has the 5.5 liter engine...

1) It could have had the engine swap. Only the engine's S/N can give it away, right?
2) Didn't ALL C43's start out as finished C43's? The C55 was if you bought a C43 and paid extra to have it swapped as a C55? Would that imply that the VIN would still come up as a C43?
