A Price I Couldn't Resist...
Good things really do come to those that wait! I was following this item on Cl and eBay for quite sometime as the price tag was originally $7.5K USD. Over the past 9 months the asking price began to drop in small increments. It dropped to $7K USD, $6.5K USD, $6K USD, $5.5K USD, $5K USD, $4.5K USD and finally to $3999.99 USD. I then contacted the seller and asked him what his lowest price would be if I purchased it directly from him via his Cl posting instead of going through eBay. He stated that the lowest he could go was $3.5K USD. At that price it was still a hell of a deal but, I still couldn't justify spending that much! I explained to him that I'd have to pass. I leave work on Tuesday and get home by 2:45pm. Something prompted me to check my eBay watch list. To my amazement, the seller had literally dropped the asking price by 50% down to $1999.50 USD just seconds before I opened my eBay page. I wasn't so lucky with the first 5.4 that I purchased but, something tells me that this brand new motor will more than make up for it. To say that I'm excited would be a huge understatement!

Thanks PJ. I do remember someone had posted it here but the link was dead and it was no longer listed on eBay. I was searching Los Angeles Cl and stumbled across it. Then shortly after, the seller listed on eBay again. I never imagined that it would drop to $2K USD.

Lol. I hope it's perfect as it's a brand new crate motor that has never been installed in a vehicle. Still mounted on the green metal Mercedes shipping frame. I plan to have it completed within a few weeks after taking delivery. It's on it's way up from Cali and soon to be in its new home in Vancouver, BC, CANADA.

That was my exact reaction when the seller reduced the price by 50%. For months it was $3999.99 USD then all of a sudden it dropped to $1999.50 USD. I immediately bought it just seconds after the price dropped. There was 24 other people watching it on eBay. I feel as though I won a lottery!

Thx DR! You're so correct with that statement as my 43 has been idle for a year and a half now and I certainly have missed her! Unfortunately the wife's 335I just doesn't have that growl or punch!

Holy crap, that's insane!
But seriously. Is there any concern as to the state of an engine that hasn't been ran since the day it was built, which was 16 years ago? Shouldn't you get an endoscope and investigate as many of the internals as possible before you run it? Are the gaskets and seals all going to fail quickly?
And I would honestly be very hesitant to ever even use it! It's literally untouched. I'd be torn between putting it in a glass display case in my home or putting it in the car!

I was thinking the same thing. I would probably not throw it into a glass case though, maybe throw the old engine into a glass case so he will have it for matching numbers. I think it will be important for him to blow air through the engine to clear out anything that may have crawled in there over the years, then lubricate it very well and hand crank it with a possible pressure/leak-down test afterwards. and finally with a very proper break in period
No matter what, a great buy. perfect block.

I don't think many people bought the S55 engine for C43 swap, so this means it's even a bit more spezial than a stock engine swap

S55 in sweden had 360hp where S55 had 354
s55 was the best and most expensive version in the AMG fleet, it had to have a few more hp than it's lesser siblings otherwise why would peepol pay more money for an s-class rather buying the cheaper e-class.
this was for marketing purposes s-class had a few more ponies than e55
clk and ML had 347 hp compared to 354 in e55.
maybe AMG shop squeezed out 6 more ponies from an ECU map on the S-class?
