Hi all,

None of my keys work. Seems my EIS my have failed.

Firstly, tried to start car after fueling up, just cranked, two time outs, pulled key and re-inserted, key doesnt turn, ESL doesnt unlock.

How do i get the EIS out of the dash?

Has anyone ever opened one up and repaired one?

Im 600klms from any Mercedes Dealer, and kinda stuck here.

Cheers all

Does the K40 relay have any impact on the key not turning at all??

Is there a chance my K40 could stop my key turning?

After diagnostics at the dealer, the issue was not the EIS, but the ESL had locked out after 400 starts. I have paid another dealer $170 to program that ESL, and according to the dealer the car is with now, it was never done.

The reason the car failed to start a few times was cam position sensor, which i had replaced very recently with a genuine Bosch part, and it has failed prematurely.

So the most expensive part of the job was the transporting of the car, hundreds of klms to the nearest dealer....

Damnation! Try at least getting a refund on the cam sensor. Definitely should not have died so early in life, specially for a Bosch item

Have contacted parts supplier about that.

Am aiming for a refund on the lazy Merc dealer programming of the ESL that did not get down correctly too.

what ist ESL?

with my original 1999 factory key car starts everytime, with my new chrome key car will start maybe 4 out of 6 times, removing chrome key from ignition then re-inserting key will start the car.
stealership told me ignition is kaputt, coud it be cam position sensor?
this cam position sensor is a cheap part to replace than buying a new EIS for several hundred bux

Except the cam position sensor needs you to pull off the intake manifold as the little critter lives under there...

Does bad cam sensor give a code? My last adventure with crank position sensor did not have a code on SDS.

well i don't know why my ignition dislikes my chrome key on random start ups?
anyone experiance this with the new chrome keys?
my old key from 1999 works 100% everytime, the new chrome key works random on start ups!!
when i try to start i hear a clicking from ingnition then i have to remove key from ignition to re-insert key and then my car wil start with chrome key.
why is this happenin?

No, nothing to do with cam position sensor in your case. In my case it was a coincidence that both played up around the same time

No it doesnt. It is in the front of the right hand head and takes 2 minutes to swap out, removal of one retaining screw is all you need.
