Help Regarding Transmission

Has anyone removed the guide bushing that has a tension spring on the inside of the transmission. It is located in the same area as the parking lock interlock linkage aka the plil? Please refer to the attached pic! Any help is greatly appreciated! Thx

There's really no choice as my 722.6 transmission was an earlier 99 model that has the o-ring on the guide bushing. It was seeping fluid so I have to change it out. All the seals and other o-rings were brittle as hell and crumbled when replacing them. Any suggestions? Thx

Is it a pressed in part, or do you need a special tool to remove and put back in? Guess you need to look in the WIS for more details, or someone on here who has access to the MB workshop information system (WIS).

Thx guys! I was able to figure it out and removed it. The parking pawl pivot pin and circlip need to be removed thus allowing the parking rod sleeve to come out.

Thx DRBC43AMG,

The large diameter o-ring hat seals the pump housing is in overall excellent condition. No visible cracks or flat spots and feels almost identical to the new one. The o-ring that seals the parking rod sleeve had no visible cracks but much harder than normal. Not overly brittle but, it was apparent as to why it wasn't sealing correctly. The second smallest o-ring seals the breather valve that is located at the top of the bell housing. It was in the worst condition of all as it was completely brittle. The smallest o-ring seals the parking pawl pivot pin. It was in decent condition overall but did crack when I removed it with a seal pick. There is another tiny o-ring that is on the lock pawl pivot pin which is not shown in the diagram. It is recommended to replace it if the pin has been removed. Surprisingly, that one had to come from Germany. The link below will show the parts diagram. Scroll down to page 47.

I should also add that the front main seal was in terrible condition. Although there was no seepage, it was only a matter of time. The rear main seal was badly seeping and I'll post pics once I've removed it.

I'm glad that I could share the info. just in case someone else comes across the same issue. There are literally dozens of o-rings of different sizes and part#'s. I decided to replace all of the transmission o-rings and seals as I don't ever want to have to pull my transmission out again. My intention was to only replace the pilot bushing and the PLIL when I noticed the rear main seal was seeping as well as the parking rod sleeve located next to the PLIL. All in all it is a great learning experience disassembling and assembling the transmission. Hopefully this takes care of all potential issues. Thx
