There's a reason why only one person has achieved the factory 5.4K swap. It took him several years and thousands of man hours in their shop to figure it out. Another reason he's not sharing any info. with anyone. I would do it in a heartbeat if he was local and willing to do it for a decent price. I can only imagine the trial and error of that painstaking process to finally get it right. An enormous amount of time and money have gone into that car. Totally worth it imho!

It’s been tough! Before I go ahead and try getting me2.8.1 to work I went ahead and installed a AEM F/IC 8 over the weekend. My buddy ran it into the cabin and I wired it into the ecu.
Now it’s time to start tuning the beast.

You could do a stand-alone ME2.8 setup. I'm working on that now for my V8 swapped SLK. I'm putting a 5.5L from a parts CLK55 that I have and currently have the engine running off the harness outside of the car. I'm hoping to make a harness "kit" that goes from the EIS to the ECU, then you just plug that into your engine harness.
I still have yet to remove everything that isn't needed from the harness so it's still messy.

I can get logs in my 55 swapped C43...
I'm totally doing this to my car one day when people like you have the bugs worked out. My chassis has over 300k miles, so this car will always be worthless. But it's completely RUST FREE so it's a great platform for a crazy 55k build.

I can get you some numbers from my Megasquirt tune on my 55 engine (in my SLK). right now I'm in the high 20's for ignition advance, but what I read from stock engine owners is that they are happy in the low 20's.

Any more progress and info that your willing to share?
Hey @g60wall has there been any updates with your timing map? Or any more info that your willing to share? I've been seriously following this build the one thing I'm curious about is how you got the stock cluster to work, assuming it all works besides tach and speedo? Or is that a disadvantage of not staying 2.0 and going after market ECU? Also a question for @loggato running 2.8.1 on the engine/harness outside of the ECU. Any progress with that EIS harness? I will also be your first customer lol plus I'm always willing to brainstorm for free lol. Do you expect your 2.8 build to be able to work with stock cluster? Also when running 2.8 are you making a hybrid ECU box for the tcu plug? I guess that depends what trans you use? Are you planning to use the c43 trans or the 55k trans? Wich trans are you running @g60wall ?

Really not worth the big headache with much $$$$ for 55K..!?!,,
prefer to go with N/A 5.4L,,
"headers/cams/ported Head with Titanium valves & springs/Ported TB/bigger injectors/Phenolic spacers for head & TB/900Nm gearbox with valve body/LSD diff./custom ECU-remap",
if you do all these perfectly, i don't think you will seeking for 55K swap anymore..
