I went for a gentle drive to wake the old queen from her hibernation and blow out the cobwebs, despite the lock-down we are experiencing with the Covid-19 thing. Thanks goodness our 36's and 43's are immune to this virus.
Took a full face shot of the front and grilles for you George Still haven't got round to picking up the refurbished 18" Monos with new Michelin shoes from my tyre shop. Don't even know if they are open or not. Will need to check next week before trying to go. I may get them treated to a ceramic protection if the price is reasonable. We will see. And before somebody says something, yes I also noticed the temperature sensor needs to be fixed back onto the bumber
Front face shot with grilles in place of the fog lights. As said b4, the lights had to be disconnected/removed to comply with road rules and regulations, as they sit too far down with the lowered suspension

Nice! These would look great on my all black C43. Thanks for the pic.
It was NOT cheap but the result was worth it IMHO. Cost around $1'200.- OK something one doesn't do regularly, but I guess if done once in 20 years softens the investment

Yeah that's expensive, I would never pay that if I still lived in Chicago. Where I live now I would because they will stay nice for a long time.
This afternoon as we are all covid-19 confined, I worked on polishing the wheel centre caps with some decent polish before I check to see if I can go and pick up my refurbished Monos. I think they came out nice despite being several years old and will not look out of place on the Monos.

Lookin good!! Put something protective on it as well?
I decided that a good clean of the air-box was in order and the next item on my "To do" list.
Removed the unit from the engine and split it apart. Took out the filters and using my workshop vacuum cleaner removed some of the old dried out bugs and other debris which had been sucked inside. As the "Green Filters" are reusable items, I placed them in a tub with warm soapy water and let them soak for a couple of hours, with the outside facing side lowest in the water so that the dirt and other debris would fall to the bottom of the tub. From time to time I swirled them around without turning them over. Then after a good rinse in hot water time for them to dry till tomorrow morning. Then I'll blow compressed air through the filters in the opposite direction of normal air flow. Then I'll apply a thin spray layer of filter oil over the surface, I have used this method for years and never had a problem with a polluted MAF by the oil or other things.
Next job was insulating the underside of the air-box with gold reflective sheeting. Sheeting used is Reflect a Gold from DEI https://www.designengineering.com/re...flective-roll/ which I have used in my Ultima Can-Am build. Tomorrow I'll finish the second half of the air-box before getting everything assembled and back on the engine.
Green filters in need of some cleaning after a season's driving (without winter of course) A bit of old bugs and other debris clinging to the underside. First clean with a vacuum cleaner Soaking in warm soapy warm. Debris falling to the bottom of the tub First part of the air-box heat management project done
Picked up the wheels this afternoon. Here's a couple of photos of one of the rear wheels. I think they look just puuuurfect! What do you people think? I'll make some more after they are ceramic coated.

Finished today covering the underside of the air-box with DEI gold sheeting. As the part # has now been hidden under the sheeting, I made a photo so I can find it should it be needed later A113 090 01 01 then under the AMG name 46 207 85 901. Probably the latter is an internal AMG #
Just need to oil the underside of the Green filters, reassemble the unit and place back onto the engine
Underside of the filter-box covered in gold heat reflective sheeting ID and part # of air-box for reference purposes before disappearing under the sheeting
The filters have been thinly oiled and assembled back into the air box and the two parts screwed down together. All fitted back onto the engine.
The Monos were picked up this morning for ceramic treatment. Back in the next days. Then photo shoot time
Air box gold sheet covered for some heat management. In all cases it certainly looks nice, but unfortunately will be hidden away under the hood

Looks like you went with the polished outer lip, which is an improvement over OEM in my opinion. I ended up leaving mine as a machined lip when I had them redone and then clearcoated over the machined lip, which is a bit closer to OEM. Mine were $175 per wheel to get redone and would have been significantly more had I gone the polished lip route. Yours look really really good, can't wait to see them on the car.
So finally swapped my 17" to 18" Monos this morning with a fresh set Michelin PS4 socks and took some pics. Enjoy
I haven't driven much this season. Maybe getting a new stable mate soon (looking at a W204 C63 coupe), but "T-Rex" will stay and share the hay.
Sorry about the scrape on the corner of the bumber. Had an unexpected nudge against a wall when parking... Front 18" Mono with Michelin PS4. Ceramic coated. Brake calliper painted back in 2012. Still looking great IMO Rear 18" Mono with Michelin PS4. Ceramic coated

Looks amazing. Also, excellent work on the air intake.
