C43/55 ECU Tune

Hello Gang,

I am new to the forum so I am sure this has been covered and I have run it through the main page, but thought I would ask here as well. I have a 1998 C43 that has the 5.4L N/A swap done. I am trying to find someone to tune this thing as it running on the stock C43 ECU and know it is a long way from maximized. I have called all the obvious players like Weistec and Eurocharged and they do not want to touch it as its an "Engine Swap", which I challenged but to no luck.

Long story short, I just want to find someone to tune the ECU. If anyone can point me in a good direction, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you in advance.

C43 AMG with a tune up
According to other engine swappers if you tune the ECU to 55 tune you will lose some HP/TQ.
With stock C43 tune you'll have a bit more power.

One thing to do is to make sure the car is not running lean which could damage your cats.
If you have never replaced your vacuum breather hoses which go hard and brittle from engine heat and age, these vacuum hoses could cause small undetectable leaks, it's time to buy new hoses.
This is a small replacement thing to do but your car will thank you.
With new vacuum hoses AFR will be more accurate.

Matt,

Thank you very much for you input and advice. I will definitely look into checking/replacing those lines. With regards to the tune, thank you for the heads up on the stock E55 tune. I guess that is why the C43 ECU was the advice post swap. With that said, I am trying to find out if I can buy or get anyone to look at a custom tune. I was looking at Eurocharged and Weistec but both gave a short answer based on the swap instead of offering any real answer or assistance. To this point, I am wondering if you or anyone else knows if I purchased the Weistec tuned ECU if it will truly give the upgrade that is claimed? If you read the whole file, it shows everything from the 4.3L to the 5.4L working on that upgraded ECU, but I would prefer to have someone validate that before I just blindly buy it. If you know or if anyone else have purchased this tuned ECU, please let me know your experience.

Thank you Matt.

C43 AMG with a tune up
If I remember correct, PJmak did a 55 tune up on his black C43/55 swap.
He lost some ponies and TQ if I remember correct?.
He's the guy with the red C43 rebuilding it from scratch.
You could pm PJ and ask him about the 55 tune.

There are a few Youtube videos of other C43 engine swaps, if you read the comments below, there's one owner with a black C43, he will say stick with stock C43 ECU as he lost hp and tq with the 55 tune.
Perhaps you should stick with C43 ECU as it works.

Matt, thank you for the council. It seems that I am just looking for something that should not be pursued. Thank you for the insight and I will just stick with the C43 ECU and try to make big power on the next build. Thank you.

So I looked at getting a tune done, to me it looks like our ecu is too old because I was told by a eurocharged shop I would have to book dyno time/tuning time if I wanted it done.

Yeah, I guess the only way around this would be to do a complete remap of the ECU using a dyno, so that will be $$$ but should be doable and would certainly get you some extra power

Thanks guys. I honestly wouldn’t be opposed to doing that and booking a Dyno and getting custom tuning. The problem is finding someone reputable and that knows these cars and can actually get it done. I live in South Florida and frankly there are many shops down here all
claiming to be speed shops when in reality they are nothing more than bolt on parts resellers. I am just trying to find if I can get a little more out of the car and have it maximized or if I am simply chasing ether. Thank you again gang and if anyone knows of a reputable shop in SoFlo please let me know. Cheers.

Brad,

I spoke with Eurocharged and they didn't want to touch it for some reason. The guy I spoke to just wanted to sell of the shelf parts. If you know of a specific guy there I should talk to, please let me know.

Thanks.

Who did you talk with at Eurocharged? Jerry??

If EC won't do it, check out race IQ.

I was mistaken, eurocharged doesn't tune the m.e. 2.0

1998 C43 w/ 55 swap Wavetrac LSD and 6-Speed manual
I'd spend the money on a LSD before the tune. I swapped my 55 in first and drove it for a couple months. Then added the WaveTrac. The difference is very noticeable and I suspect more then the small incremental gains a tune will net. I also have the 203/209 AMG airbox which is suppose to breath better.

Get first an enlarged air-box from George Best mod around and it lets the engine really breath properly. The gains are noticeable also

I can second this, for the price of a tune you can get a wavetrac and it really improves how the car drives

I could have sworn they had a canned tune for the W210 E55 which uses the m.e. 2.0

Thanks for all the input gents. I am just going to do small things to work on the overall performance and stop looking for the tune. It seems that even if that is/was possible, it has passed as the age of the car and M113 seems to be waning. None the less, I do love the car and will more than likely do the Wavetrac and some small mods like MAF modification, headers if I can still find them, and possibly under drive pulleys. But that will be about it. She is a great ride and love her. I will more than likely keep it, but will most likely start looking for a W204 C63 if I want the tire shredding HP.

Thanks gang, and Cheers!

I bought a C43 tune from Eurocharged back in 2011. I also bought the remote cable and started working on setting up a time to remote tune and never landed on a time slot and honestly it fell off my radar. I should try to see if they'll still do it.

Not completely true. At the bare minimum, it can knock off the top speed limiter. Whether that has value is up to the individual.
