1998 C43 that I want to sell, idk for how much

Hello, my mom currently owns a 1998 c43 that my father used to drive. I really like the car but it is starting to have issues with the transmission and my mother would like to sell it to someone who can fix it and give it new life.

The car has around 100k miles, it is in good condition (definitely not perfect though) and I have no idea what would be a reasonable price to list it at.

My mother’s mechanic says he will buy it at 1000 dollars, I think that is too low, but it does have issues with the transmission (takes too long to change gears especially when cold).

Can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much it would/should go for? And also a place I can list it for sale?

Thanks everyone!

1k for a good condition C43? your mechanic is trying to steal that C43 from you guys. the transmission should be an easy fix by any mechanic then you have a 7-10k dollar car. can you post some pics of the car?

Stay away from that crooked mechanic, he's trying to rip you off offering $1000.
Mechanic knows the C43 is a popular car, he wants to buy it cheap, fix it up and sell it for a huge profit.

Yeah, $1000 is a jack move. For example, I paid $700 for just the steering wheel once.

Car looks in good shape plus white is pretty hard to find and it’s a Cali car no rust . love these c43s ,hope you wasn’t going to this mechanic for A long time ,but as far as value I think it’s worth around $4 to $5k being that it needs a transmission sun valley in California has them rebuilt $2000 plus install if you wanted to keep it just wouldn’t use that same mechanic guy
and If it has a good service history that also will add to the value ( not from that mechanic he can’t be trusted ) Was your dad the original owner

I just sold mine for $5500, no issues, body is almost mint with 130,xxx miles. Look for a different mechanic , have it fixed then sell it. Are you in the Bay Area?

List it at $10k, sell it for no less than $8500. Or auction it for no reserve on ebay/BaT/CarsBids. With only 100k on the clock, you could spend ~$1k in repairs/maintenance pre-sale and it would help the presentation/sale. Good looking white though!

How you going to import a w202 C55 to US?
These cars are they not too new for import?
Don't you have to wait like 25 years or so to import a vehicle to US?

Yes there is: the NHTSA. I went through this with them 2-3 years ago when I inquired about importing one. I made every argument you're about to make. Their final determination was that the car would have to be sent to an import specialist where they would bill $10-20k in "US compliance" modifications to get the NHTSA to import it. I wasn't about to drop $20k+ on a c55 and then have it butchered for double the price.

To the OP - there's a decent chance the transmission just needs a conductor plate, the electrical connector kit, and a fluid flush. Maybe a $600 job?

I concur, not forgetting the filter though and even a DIY job if you are handy with tools, providing no bolts snap when unscrewing the pan

I don't think OP is in any position to fix or even keep the car.

I do hope they list it for sale on this forum; they would get a fair price and a loyal owner who would take good care of it.

Isabella Gomez: if you have contact information (email) please leave it here. Someone here may want to give a fair price for the car. Or you can list it for sale on the "classified" section on this website. I would post $5,500 for sale price.
