It's amazing what some lowering springs, #1 and #2 pads, Period correct wheels, new headliner, and and some clear corners will do to the look of a car. I transformed my W202 just in time for Radwood Austin back in Late February of this year. It's my favorite car to drive around for curbside pickups.
Hello, I am new to both the forum and my ‘97 C36. Here are some pictures of it in the exact state I purchased it in. First order of business is a nice wash and detail.
22 X3, 21 330e, 97 M3, 97 C36 (sold), but on the hunt for a clean, low-mile C43!
What happened to the headlight washers? I don't think I've ever seen a C36 without them, unless the previous owner removed them (although I don't see the holes where they would have been mounted)?
So I guess that answers the question. Indeed not all c43s came with xenons. That was an option.
I'm happy to have xenons on my car and so are you.
However when the system starts to F-up, it won't be cheap to fix xenon problems, parts are expensive.
Those who don't have xenons on their cars will be fortunate with cheaper maintanence.
The expensive parts are the ballasts. Found some new parts very cheap. Replaced the old ones and no new problems since.
Did you find aftermarket Bosch ballasts or genuine MB parts?
Where did you buy them?
Perhaps could go to Audi dealership to find parts if MB no longer sell the same ballast?
Do you know the generic Bosch parts number or Audi parts number for left and right ballast?

No neither.
Found some after market ones, probably made in China as they where shipped from Singapore. The price quoted for OE units from MB gave me a heart attack, so searched around and found this solution which was 1/8th the price MB quoted. As far as I know and have seen, both left and right ballasts on the vehicle are the same and show no differences. I changed the faulty one some time back and everything has been working perfectly since. The other OE still works great so no need to change it for the moment, but should it start playing tricks I have the spare to install. I must say that these units are exposed to all the water spray and driving conditions, so do hold up very well regarding the harsh environment they have to live in.
Left side is after market and right the OE Bosch unit
Chinese are the pro's when it comes to copying automotive parts.
Sometimes they succeed with their efforts sometimes they fail.
Looks like your aftermarket ballast are good items if they still work?
Do you remember how much dealership price was for the OE part?
These ballast fits both systems D2S and D2R which is great, we have the D2R.
It's easy to buy wrong xenon bulbs with wrong fitment?
I always thought of getting a C43 in S202 to go with my W202. Great twins, but decided to get a W204 C63 instead. Perfect family regardless
P.S. Mine also has around 315k km

Not a bad decision!
BTW, I bought mine in "The land of mountains, chocolate and watches"!
Much better condition, compared to the cars in Germany!
Here is my w202 c280 with c36 bumpers and AMG rims and AMG exhaust will go on after its out of the paint shop. It’s still a work in progress I still need a front right apron because the car was hit in the right side. Sadly it’s not an AMG but does anyone know what kind of manual transmission will fit the m112 motor?
