Almost A Tragedy

Hey everyone, I know this is a car forum, but I feel like I know so many of you. So I just wanted to encourage you guys to please take care of your health. I just had a 5 clogged artery by pass heart surgery. 3 were 100 percent clogged, the other 2 80 percent.

I got a heart attack as I was showing my wife some work I had done. I had my left arm around her shoulder as I pointed to the work with my right hand. In a split second my heart stopped for 8-10 minutes and I was dead. She held me up and my daughter called 911.

If they were not home I would not be here today. This is why I wanted to post, to encourage you to take care of your health. Yesterday my daughter shipped my last air box till I recover, I will continue to mod the air boxes. It’s not strenuous for me and the funds has helped me and my family greatly.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Btw, if any of you have had an open heart surgery and care to share, please do. And if this post is not acceptable in this forum and is deleted I completely understand.

Wow George that is some very serious and scary news. So happy you could make it through and I hope you are on the path to a full mend.
I also had some heart problems in 2012 after a heart attack and a whole lot of stents installed, but no open heart surgery
Yeah, we need to look after our health, eat good food, ban ALL junk food and do regular exercise
Keep us posted on your progress

With 80 and 100% blockages, I have to assume there were symptoms somewhere along the way. Were there any symptoms, and if so, what were the symptoms?

There might be a good reason our bodies get rid of calcium as we age... I was under the impression those deposits were all fat until my last CT scan that showed some "calcification" of my arteries, so started doing some research on my own:

The connection between calcium and cardiovascular disease is plausible. Calcium deposits are part of artery-clogging plaque. They also contribute to stiffening of the arteries and interfere with the action of heart valves.

I find that interesting for example that hard water which is rich in calcium might actually be beneficial for the heart according to some studies? https://www.scientificamerican.com/a...or-your-heart/

There are often warning signs and predispositions to heart disease. See your doctor annually for physical exams, and take note if you find yourself breathing heavily after climbing stairs. Be especially attentive if heart disease runs in your family and if your lifestyle includes risk factors such as smoking, drinking and excessive body mass index.

-Thank you Pj I really appreciate it. Usually I’m always home by myself as both of them work. But that day they were both home, thank goodness.

Thank Goodness. Take care

-Thanks PSB, I’m definitely going to take better care of myself.

With 80 and 100% blockages, I have to assume there were symptoms somewhere along the way. Were there any symptoms, and if so, what were the symptoms?

-Yes there were, I was ALWAYS fatigued, even after just waking up after a good night sleep. Went to the doctor and did blood work and all was good accept my thyroid’s. So my doctor thought that may be the cause and put me on medication. After a few weeks I did feel a LITTLE better but I was still so tired. Also whenever I exerted myself like paddling my bike fast my top part of my jaws started to hurt bad. Even taking the trash out moving a bit fast would do it. My arm or chest never hurted. 40 seconds or so before the heart attack my belly swelled like a small ball. Told my wife and we didn’t think much of it as my stomach gets a little big after I eat. But this was different but I got up and asked her to come with me and I showed her the work I had done and as I was speaking I had the heart attacked.

-Thanks zayed, man the things we all go through and just never know unless we ask. Interesting you said you lost your eye vision. I’m still not able to see as I did before. Things are blurry so I’m wearing glasses. It is getting better so I’m grateful for that. Take care of yourself and I hope your nervousness gets better.

-Thanks for the info, and yes both of my parents died because of heart related disease. I use to weigh 265 6 years ago, I’m at 209 now and want to go lower….

And yes I appreciate my family more than ever. So far I’m not depressed at all, I was so tired before and now have energy so that’s been great. And I do hope I will outlast the air box. I love modding these air boxes for the members. I can’t believe how many I’ve done….
