Hmmm interesting...IMHO this is all about marketing and trying to sell the most vehicles they can, obviously anything MB with a proper AMG title to it is more desirable and with lower end more affordable model variants sporting an AMG badge there'll be a higher uptake.
This will definitely "dilute" the established AMG order, some will be put off others will welcome it, probably most won't care or even know the difference as it is only a minority that are true car enthusiast and/or join or take part on forum boards.
As for the C450 (now C43) it does actually have some serious performance behind it stock and also has all the tuning potential of other force fed engines, I would not be surprised at all if tuned examples become as quick or quicker than a stock C63 considering they also have the advantage of AWD, maybe some justification for a proper AMG badge...

My statement is don't shoot the car down because it has a AMG badge on it. Here are the specs that you may not read about.
1) SLK 55 Trans
2) E/CLS 63 AWD Setup
3) W205 C63 non s front brakes
4) W205 C63 Suspension
5) W205 C63 Steering Racj
6) AMG Designed Exhaust with "dumping" sound in S+
7) 15 PSI from 11 PSI in the C400
8) AMG Designed Exhaust with "dumping" sound in S+

2016 C63 S
I suppose I have a slightly different view than some. Mercedes-AMG is a business and needs to make money. If selling the C450 / C43 provides the business with the necessary funding to continue to build and develop the monster that is the C63S and future iterations, I'm on board.

I was going to write some crap comparing CLA45 and how that started MB's dilution of "sports" and the AMG name (over-priced Evo is what some have said) but then I realized its just marketing.
As mentioned before, those of us who know the difference will know it isn't a real AMG and not on the level/power/prestige of a C63 (I say this almost choking on my own words due to all the problems my car has) but those who don't will think its a rich-person's MB and not over think it.
Ultimately, those driving S-Class AMG's probably look down on us too and who really gives a ****?
If you like your new Mercedes-AMG C43, more power to you. But if you think it comes from the same heritage as a C63 I'll make sure you are put in your place. Also, just because it has a collection of go-fast pieces from the MB parts-bin that doesn't mean its a true AMG.

Bet you it has a lot to do with their placing the amg moniker on the amazingly successful F1 team. The value of the brand amg has gone up drastically. Mb is using that to market its cars further. It's all about money and it should be.
Did you notice that the name Benz was dropped from the amg line last year?
It's all part of a plan. Let's face it. Despite the higher prices of the AMGs they make less money for mb than the standard cars. Losing some die hard fans is probably worth gaining segments of the market that mb had to struggle for.
My theory is that the s line will evolve to be what amg is today and amg will be analogous to sports package. Mark my words peopl.

BRAND DILUTION! I feel really sorry for myself and for you fellows, with all these C43's coming on the way holding up the AMG badge! not only the C450 looks VERY similar to the C63, which already pissed me off, but it will also carry around an AMG badge, which just KILLS our C63s !!!

It really doesn't bother me at all.
I bought my car for my own enjoyment, whatever it says on that bootlid doesn't bother me, as long as I enjoy it

I spoke with the owner of the local MB dealership to ask for his opinion and he just said; we put an AMG badge on it and it's 10 grand more.
It's too bad that the AMG exclusive "one man one engine" will no longer apply.
I already see too many wannabees with their AMG badging around here.

I think with all the recent success of their F1 team, Mercedes-AMG is trying to cash in and I don't blame them! It costs several hundred million dollars a year to operate an F1 team like Mercedes-AMG. If it helps to sell cars for Mercedes and potentially draw more fans towards F1, then so be it. As a C63s AMG owner, it doesn't bother me one bit.
I decided to finally spend the money and get my car because I have wanted a C-Class AMG since the days of the C32. I don't care if it dilutes the brand or people decided to dress their cars up so it looks like a true AMG. At the end of the day if it makes them happy who cares.

They are moving all the 450 models under the Mercedes-AMG brand.
A few weeks ago, we were a bit surprised to learn that the AMG version of Mercedes’ new SLC-class roadster—it replaces the SLK-class—would be powered by the engine found in the AMG Sport models of the C- and GLE-classes, the C450 AMG and GLE450 AMG. (AMG Sport was launched to neatly split the difference between regular Mercedes vehicles and full-bore AMGs.) AMG hadn’t offered a six-banger in many years, and the twin-turbocharged V-6, while an impressive powerplant, doesn’t adhere to Affalterbach’s “One Man, One Engine” gospel, whereby one technician assembles a complete engine from start to finish.
But the Mercedes-AMG SLC43 won’t be an exception—it actually sets a precedent, as the AMG Sport models will be rechristened and moved into the AMG lineup proper. The Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG will become the Mercedes-AMG C43, and a Mercedes-AMG E43 will launch later this year. Further models will follow.

I see a direct competitor to the S4 here, both in exclusivity and useable performance. I think that AMG has thought this out quite well- all I see while downtown are S4s driven by young enthusiasts in my demographic.
Having said that, "one man one engine" is something they can never earn back.

However with all these recent changes going on at MB/AMG who knows what ends up eventuating...

That's correct, also here in Australia they (MB dealerships) are offering a free badge/logo upgrade to existing sold C450's converting them to AMG C43's
Yes that is correct also, there will definitely be a C43 coupe, I was referring to the similar looks aspect from that previous posting AFAIK it (the C43 coupe) will be based on the "regular" C205 coupe body, not the pumped up C63 that being the case the C63 coupe will maintain its individual appearance, unlike the sedans.

It's an interesting predicament this one isn't it...I agree with what you've decided to do but also thinking that at the time of updating/selling you may want to change up on the badges/logo as at that point in time there won't be any C450's around and possibly it may also work to your advantage if a new owner finds your car more desirable badged as a C43 AMG rather than a regular MB C450, just food for thought
Regarding your future choices wait till the new E63's are released to decide, I've been "privy" to some insider info and pics of the upcoming E63 range and as stated in another thread the new E63 is a mega machine, both technologically and performance wise with good looks to match, there won't be much if anything around in the same price point that can touch it
