Does the c43 have a race mode? If not I don't think you have race start. That's a shame since it would be a lot more effective then with RWD

It's a lot more involved then Audi. You have to use the paddles to initiate it and then follow the instructions on the display.

My 2015 CLA 45 does not have a race mode just sport but it does have race start.

The C43 does not have race start.

I was trying the exact same thing this morning on my new C43 Coupe... I followed the instructions in the owners manually exactly and it did not work. The car was warm (had been driven 1/2 hour)... it was in S+, Manual Mode, ESP in Sport, foot on brake, steering wheel straight, pulled back on both paddles.... nothing. The car has 900 miles on it, is there a minimum before Race Start will work?

Will ask the obvious, with left foot on the brake you also planted the throttle to the floor with your right foot?

My Porsche has Launch Control.
"set Sport+.... car in auto mode... left foot full on brake.... right foot full on throttle" revs and holds at ~4500rpm..... release brake.... HANG ON!!

Yes, left foot on brake, but from what I understand you can't mash the throttle until AFTER you activate Race Start by pulling the paddles simultaneously. When I pull the paddles I never get the confirmation message.

My bad, just watched a couple YouTube videos covering CLA45 AMG with Race Mode. It's a much different procedure to engage.

I had a 45, and have a 63. The Race Start procedure is the same. Dead stop, foot on brake, wheel straight, pull both paddles, pull right paddle, rev engine and pop brake. Can access in Sport+, Race or Individual.. doesn't need to be in Manual either.

Conditions for activation
You can activate RACE START if:
Rthe doors are closed.
Rthe engine is running and it has reached an
operating temperature of approximately
160 ‡ (71 †). This is the case when the oil
temperature gauge in the multifunction display
is shown in white.
Rthe drive program S, S+ or Race is selected.
(Y page 154)
Rthe steering wheel is in the straight-ahead
position.
Rthe vehicle is stationary and the brake pedal is
depressed (left foot).
Rthe transmission is in position D.

Activating RACE START
i When manual mode (Y page 161) is active,
the transmission automatically shifts up to
RACE START in the drive program. This function
supports maximum acceleration with
RACE START. After going through an accelerating
process once from a stationary position,
this function is automatically deactivated.
X Depress the brake pedal with your left foot
and keep it depressed.
X Pull and hold both steering wheel paddle shifters
(Y page 161).
The RACE START Cancel: Paddle CDoOnWfNirmme:ssPaagdedalpepeUaPrs in
the multifunction display.
X Release both steering wheel paddle shifters
(Y page 161).
i If the activation conditions are no longer fulfilled,
RACE START is canceled. The RACE START Canceled message appears in the
multifunction display.
X To cancel: pull the left steering wheel paddle
shifter (Y page 161).
or
X To confirm: pull the right steering wheel paddle
shifter (Y page 161).
The RACE START Available Depress gas pedal.message appears in the multifunction
display.
i If you do not depress the accelerator pedal
fully within two seconds, RACE START is canceled.
The RACE START Not Possible See Operator's Manualmessage appears in the
multifunction display.
X Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
The engine speed rises to approximately
3,500 rpm.
The RACE START Release brake to start message appears in the multifunction display.
i If you do not release the brake pedal within
five seconds, RACE START is canceled. The
RACE START Canceled message appears in
the multifunction display.
X Take your foot off the brake, but keep the
accelerator pedal depressed.
The vehicle pulls away at maximum acceleration.
The RACE START Activemessage appears in
the multifunction display.
RACE START is deactivated when the vehicle
reaches a speed of approximately 30 mph (Canada:
50 km/h).
RACE START is deactivated immediately if you
release the accelerator pedal during RACE
START or if any of the activation conditions are
no longer fulfilled. The RACE START Not Pos‐ SsTiAbRlTe CSaeenceOlpeedramtoerss'asgeMaanpupaelarosrinRAthC eE multifunction
display.
i If RACE START is used repeatedly within a
short period of time, it is only available again
after the vehicle has been driven a certain
distance.

This is what is in the 2016 C63S owners manual.
It looks like you need to have it in drive and that is how I have used it and it works well.
I don't know about the C43 but just look in the manual.

The manual that came with my C43 covers all the C Coupes, C300, C300 4Matic, C43, C63 and C63s. The manual states the Race Start is only available in the AMG models... I am not sure if this includes the C43. Maybe the AWD is the issue with making it available in the C43. There are other references in the manual to AMG only features that aren't included in the C43, but aren't specifically stated.

exactly... It's not my first rodeo with race start, like I said I have a 45 and the C43 Coupe does not have race start. Unless it is activated by reaching a certain amount of miles or dealer activated after the first service (which I doubt because there would be reference in the man.) I dont see it. At minimum when in sport mode when you pull in both paddles it will come up on the screen even if it's to say that conditions are not met. May be some one else with a C43 can chime in that has tried it.

I had Launch Control in a bunch of my BMW's... In reality, I think I used it once or twice.

I don't think the C43 does it. Not the end of the world given that the 43's motor is making max torque darn near from idle.

Yea, it pulls so quickly in 1st and 2nd that its hard to shift fast enough to avoid the redline !! I have to let the car do it until I am in 3rd. I love the traction. In my Boxster S, the biggest problem was not spinning the rear tires, and that car only had 300 hp.

That's where AWD would come in handy if the C43 had this feature.

In my 991.1 Porsche Turbo it's violent and literally rattles your eyeballs. It is not for the faint hearted... 0-60mph under 3 seconds! My new 991.2 Turbo S, the magazines are showing 0-60 in 2.5 secs.

That said, it's a "side show" gimmick and serves no practical purpose. But damn, it is impressive to experience non the less.

Pretty sure the 43 does not have launch control, aka race start.

The C43 definitely doesn't have it, if you believe the owner's manual:

RACE START is only available for Mercedes-AMG vehicles except Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC

Interesting, the manual I have states on page 171: "RACE START is only available in Mercedes AMG vehicles".... but it does not elaborate further about the C43.

Ah, interesting indeed. The text I pulled came from the sedan manual which is edition B-2017.
