My God! I can't believe this darn Mercedes phone calling system! The Ford SYNC system is so easy to use compared to this. You simply press the call button, say "phone", say "call David". SYNC says "calling David" and connects. Am I missing something here?

So much for hands free being safer.
I'll get flamed here .... There is a lot of evidence that points to the fact that even hands free is a big distraction. -- on business calls, speed creeps up, later braking, not fully focussed on what is happening around us - all to do with how many things our brains can do at once (not as many as we think) and apparently driving uses up pretty much all of them.

Back on topic....you can set up a speed dial list of 10 numbers ....not tried it and it looks like that you have to use the command dial. Also it appears that once you call up the list you can hold down the list number and it will dial the associated number.

I found the easiest way was to set my row of favorites (the star key) as quick call contacts. One press and use the Command wheel to chose which one. All without lifting your hand off its resting place.

Thank you for your responses. i found the following in the Voice manual, it seems to be the closest to Ford's SYNC.
Example of dialog:
\ Call name
^ Please say the name.
\ Smith1
If there is more than one phone number for an entry, the Voice Control System queries this.
^ Home or work?
\ Work
^ Smith work. Dialing

In this day and age, it's crazy to learn all these steps and commands to work with a phone or navigation map in a car. Users already know how these things are done the best way on their mobile phones. Car companies should just mirror the phone screens and let people use their phones the way they use it all the time for calling and navigation!

Stop re-inventing the wheel!
I think CarPlay sucks and never use it. The MB voice command calling works fine for me.

You can skip the first commands......ie. go straight to \ Call Smith1

What he said.
Not sure how it gets much simpler or more intuitive.

The only thing I rely on command for is to connect to my phone for music. Even when I place the call I use my phone and just talk through the car.

I have not used the command for anything else, not even navigation. I STILL have my iphone in a cellphone holder over the middle vent and just use google maps everytime I drive.

OK folks, I guess I deserve that. After a little more reading and experimenting, I found that it is actually a few steps less than Ford Sync. You press the call button on the steering wheel and "SIMPLY" say "call Sam". Screen pops up and numbers different Sam's in your contacts folder. You simply say which number to call and away you go. Duh!!! I have a bad habit of making the simplest the more complicated and vice versa.

I just got this GLE and still have to tackle the options from the Command to 8" screen settings such as Ambient lighting and other features. Got the dashboard options down tho with no problem.

Thanks All

Click the voice thing on steering wheel, say "call name" then after that b*tch speaks, say the name. Done
