How to SIMPLY make a phone call?

Any answers other than:

1. ON COMMAND
- go to phone
- click down
- go to phonebook...
- do another 10 steps... and the call is placed

OR

2. STEERING WHEEL
a. press the "call" button
b. NOTHING BLOODY HAPPENS?!?!?!?!
c1. go to step a
c2. go crazy
d. press home, go to telephone, do another 10 steps, place a call

OR

3. VOICE
- talk to the lady and hope she understands all my friends names (most english) and calls the right number
correction: mostly not english

How in hell can I simply push the "call" button from whatever the bloody screen I'm in, and simply redial the last freakin' number?!?!?!?!

you really have to get to know Command better

1. Okay google (if you have an android - easiest for me)
2. ON COMMAND
- go to phone
- go all the way to the right
- should be able to see your recently received/dialed calls

it also helps a lot if you take the time to do the voice learning in Command so the system understands you better

We should be able to press the phone button on the steering wheel and immediately bring up the most recently dialed calls. That's what makes sense and that's what happens when you press the phone button in a few other non-Mercedes cars I have driven.

Yes, the comand system and phone calls is about as stupid as it gets.

So much for hands free being safer.

Lack of CarPlay is a big miss for C-class! Are you listening MB??

In this day and age, it's crazy to learn all these steps and commands to work with a phone or navigation map in a car. Users already know how these things are done the best way on their mobile phones. Car companies should just mirror the phone screens and let people use their phones the way they use it all the time for calling and navigation!

Stop re-inventing the wheel!

While I see your point, you can't have it to where a car's infotainment system requires the use of a smart phone to function. The car's infotainment system needs to have the ability to function on it's own, which in turn requires it to have it's own "steps and commands". What if your phone battery dies and you have no charger? What if you forgot your phone? What if you don't have a phone? What if your phone can't get reception?

I guess most of what I'm saying goes toward the navigation/music/media side of the equation on not the calling feature itself, but hopefully you see my point. Having the option to use the apps on your phone is one thing. Having nothing programmed/hardwired into the car itself and relying completely on a smart phone is something completely different.

I just tell Google to call via "OK Google".

Or I tap the shortcut on my phone, which is mounted along the center console anyways.

COMAND is kind of meh so I avoid using it most of the time.

My VW was sooooo easy to make a call.
Press the phone button on the wheel and the display on the gauge cluster brings up your recent list to scroll through, pickthe contact and press the call button again.
or
Voice command which worked better and faster than the Merc.
Now I say "Call Nicole on Mobile" and get back, "searching for points of interest. . .

Do you think Car Play can be added via a software update? I know Hyundai did that for some of its models. If possible, any chance that MB would do that for its customers?

iPhone here: I just hold my home button until Siri answers. Pretty easy from that point.

Sure COMMAND could be better regarding this function, but I have my way that works very quickly and smoothly so I don't dwell on it.

Hmmm, I'll have to try the "Siri" thing on my Android, see if it works. That would be an acceptable, faster workaround, closer to the two click thing.

All the cars in my family since I came to US in 2009 did this the simple way... (Mazda (2), VW, MB, BMW, Infiniti...).

Not that it would have changed my purchase option, but I would have liked to know this before buying the car. Missing this is like not having blinkers on the car - it is so common and usual, that you don't think about asking "if" the car has it.

Are you able to add a phone number or contact as a Favorite like you you can do for an address? Then it would be simple to hit the star on the touch pad and then click on the phone number.

Added a few contacts as favorites, pretty easy to get to them now. Thanks for the workaround.

Select the telephone from the speedometer command screen and then hit the talk button on the steering wheel - you'll now have your recent calls dialed displayed to choose from

I'm still flabbergasted as to why Mercedes hasn't put a scroll wheel on the steering wheel. Browsing music and phone contacts becomes a sinch!

Yep, know that, I just don't want to get out of my menu, select tel, find number, dial, then I have to go back manually to the previous screen... I just won't do that because is stupid, and really poor user interface design (speaking from experience)

Well I don't think you poor Android users have "Siri" but give it a shot I guess.

Seriously, I don't see what's so hard. I just activate Siri with one quick button push, then say "call yada yada", then she confirms "ok, calling yada yada". Done. And if the radio isn't too loud, I can just say "Hey, Siri" and not even have to touch any buttons at all. LITERALLY NO BUTTONS AT ALL! NOTHING!!

How does this not amaze people? How do people get so frustrated at this when this entire technology wasn't even a thought in peoples brains ten years ago. THIS **** IS AMAZING!

Thanks Sean
I tried hey Siri and it works great.
You have to wait about a second and it dings and you give her the person to call and it goes thru without a button touch.
simple and the same in any car you have so no different instructions or procedure to remember.

We do have Ok, Google... that why I said "Siri", as it's not Siri, it's Google... does the same thing.
