HUD

Anybody here that has HUD please advise if you like/dislike it, use it or not and would get it again.
I’ve never seen it and havn’t found a vehicle with it at local dealers.
I will probably have to factory order C43 Coupe with the configuration I want so would appreciate any input on the HUD.
Thanks.

I wouldn't consider it a must have for the car. I'd say it's more if you want it, it's cool to have, but not necessary. There are other options I would get before the HUD if I had to sacrifice something.

It could be that I'm not used to having one, or that muscle memory keeps me looking at the speedometer anyway...but I don't find myself looking at it very often even when I do have it on.
Might be helpful if you spend time at the track.../shrugs

My 2017 C43 has HUD and I like it. It's especially useful when using NAV as you don't need to keep looking at the "floating iPad" display.

From my research, I was led to believe that some like it and some don't so, before spending the $ on the HUD option, I asked a dealer to get me a test drive in a HUD model (didn't need to be a C43, any HUD should do). To ensure I experienced both day and night types of driving, I arrived at the dealership before dusk, did a short test drive then sat around, drank coffee, etc. until it was dark and then did a second test drive. Given the price of the option (unless you're independently wealthy and/or don't mind wasting money), I'd strongly recommend actually experiencing the HUD before getting the option.

As another poster implied, it does take some time to re-train your "muscle memory" to use the HUD as opposed to always looking down at the speedo.

I've not done any high-speed track stuff (yet), but have done some autocross-type events and I find the HUD is useless for that -- _way_ too busy and looking too far ahead to be able to look even slightly look down and refocus on the HUD display.

Also something to consider, HUD's are generally worthless if you wear polarized sunglasses.

Yea.. I didn’t care for mine much so I just use the divot in my dash to hold my gloves, phone, cigarettes, etc..

Have it, barely use it (as I totally forget I have it most of the time!). Wish I got the 360 cameras

C43 Coupe
I love mine, but that could be because of my seat/wheel placement because I basically can't see the speedo without moving my head to see around the wheel, so for myself the HUD is awesome as I can easily see my speed and not have to move my head around. I was on the fence when I first ordered the car with it but I am very glad I did. I would order it again in a heartbeat.

I can't get mine in the perfect position vertically - it always seems too high, and if I lower it, it starts to get cut off. It has to do with my seating position, obviously, but the point is, I don't use mine because it's too high in my field of view. Also, as mentioned earlier in the thread, it can be an issue with sunglasses, although again, it's highly-dependent on seating position and viewing angle. In my particular case, when wearing sunglasses, I can see it fine with my left eye and can't see it at all with my right eye. If I turn my head side-to-side, it shimmers.

I wouldn't get it again.

Although I don’t have the HUD I would have found it useful, I think.
But seating position makes a lot of difference. Also, polarized glasses definitely make it difficult to see. But if I had the HUD I’d just invest in different glasses

I have it on mine and love it. The AMG mode with tach display and shift lights makes the car that much more entertaining to drive. Don't really care for heads up navigation instructions or whatever.

I wouldn't consider it a must have...but it's a big plus for me. My last few vehicles have had it so I'm used to making use of it when driving spiritedly.

My car only has the Premium Package, HUD, AMG Drivers Package, LED Lighting Upgrade.

If anything prohibits the tach showing up, it would be the lack of the AMG Drivers Pack I would guess. I doubt it though...it should have it regardless. Check your HUD settings and flip through the various display modes.

Call it a stretch, but I'd never sacrifice being able to see the road and my surroundings vs. being able to see the HUD. Especially this time of year with the low pitch of the Sun. I think polarized sunglasses are about as underrated as it gets if you're thinking of ways to be safe on the road. Unless you're directly comparing polarized to non-polarized in real world settings, they're completely overlooked and/or disregarded.

Have the HUD and really like it. Much easier to keep focused on the road and traffic than in our other car.

Thanks everybody.
Have decided against the HUD but will order the adaptive headlights/LED and the split spoke wheels instead.

I wouldn't either.
But HUD can be useful in day and night
