Question C43 18" winter wheel/tire updates

Any updates regarding 18" winter wheel and tire selections?
Any issues going 225 square vs. stock 225F 245R ?
Also what offsets are folks using successfully? I see +30 and +35.

Date is fast approaching for the car to arrive (yipeeee!) and will need to make a selection soon.

I just put snow tires on the OEM 18s. I went with the OEM staggered sizes. Having a blast in all this snow we've been getting here in Utah. This car is hard to break free at times it's got so much grip.

Mine is a square setup on 225's with 18x8's and 35mm offset running Nokian Hakka R2's.

How is it that us AWD motorists buy amazingly well performing snow tires and yet 99% of the cars I'm surrounded by on the roads are FWD on all season tires with 25% tread left on them?

No wonder these idiots post all day on FB about how much they hate winter and driving in snow. Freakin morons I tell ya.

I did the same. Actually had the dealer install them before I even picked the car up. We've a couple nasty storms in upstate NY so far. One created probably a top 5 worst drive home of my life. Car did fine. Passed 3 fwd vehicles spinning in place on 3 separate hills.

My previous 2 vehicles (535d and X535d) weighed a lot more, so they did better on similar tires. Also think BMW traction control is a little less invasive, if that makes sense. But no complaints, overall.

I am leasing, so 6 collective tire swaps on the same rims are OK by me, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone owning the car for the long term. They never seem to balance properly after too many swaps. Buy an extra set of rims.

It's pretty simple, not everyone can afford winter tires. Not everyone has the same privileges that we have.

They can afford them, they just choose to spend their money on other things like cigarettes/booze/clothes/weekly hair appointments/other BS.

Priorities differ I guess.

I agree. The Blizzaks are staying on the AMG wheels from here on. HRE's and proper performance tires are in the works for spring

There is no doubt there is an expense to a winter setup, but of you consider that it saves mileage on your summer set, and can save a collision or worse, it's actually quite cheap to have a winter setup.

True as well, because there is no law in the States requiring winter tires during winter.

There god damn should be. Maybe not full blown snow tires in the cities, but some sort of regulation. At least all seasons and if you get caught with bald/summer tires the snow months then it's a heavy fine. But the fine can be dropped if you prove you've acquired the proper tires.

I didn't always have "privileges" myself. Back when I was 19 and working at a ski resort for $8.50/hr, I remember putting $600 worth of snow tires for my A4 on a CC. I knew that if I was to talk the talk that I had better walk the walk. Especially driving up the mountain 120 days a season. worked my *** off to pay them off and drove circles around everyone driving up there everyday. 100% worth it.

Two gens behind, but I've put the Blizzak WS80's on my C55, and they are doing great so far.

Placing my order this week on a C43W4 and keep going back and forth on the wheels. My heart really wants 19" AMG split 5-spoke wheel, but my mind wants the all-seasons.

I currently live in a climate where buying a winter tire/wheel package genuinely doesn't make too much sense, but I want to have the security and all-around capability of being able to drive confidently in inclement weather when it does come around the few times a year. Also would like to be able to drive on plowed roads for weekend ski trips.

What's the consensus on the 18's and the standard all-seasons, given my requirements above? Seem reasonable?

If I lived in NC I'd be confident with AWD and all-season tires on a single set.

However living in Canada, having 2 sets (summers and snows) is the ONLY way to go.

Stock RFT's are crap. Ride quality is crap and they don't let very long. Shelf them immediately for lease turn in and get some real tires.

Looking at RTX Envy 18" w/42p offset.
Their website says these will fit, has anyone any experience with this size and offset?

is that an 18x8 with 42mm offset?

Typically in 18x8 it's either a 30mm or 35mm offset that works based on what's been posted around here. I don't think 42mm will work but what do I know, I'm in sales......

My bad! Was talking to a local tire guy who quoted me on wheels that were 18" x 8" +42mm.
Have him searching for 30 - 35mm options, availability and prices.

Looks like some people said its a tight fit with 35mm offset. I might consider 32-30mm when ours arrives. Good luck!

The 35mm doesn't look as bad as it sounds when people say that it's a tight fit. The only real downside to it is that it's hard to clean your callipers by hand.
