C43 engine bay pic (without the engine cover)

Does anyone have a pic of the engine without the engine bay cover on the C43 or C450AMG? (M276 DELA30 engine)

Thanks!

Looks like the oil filter canister is upside down on top of the engine.
Should make for messy DIY oil and filter changes...Yuck!

Actually not. Mercedes has never used spin on oil filters. What you see is the cap inside of which is a replaceable filter element. It is very neat to change and puts less waste into landfills than a canister design. Go to an online parts vendor - Amazon is good - and pull up a photo of an oil filter for any random Benz and you'll see what it looks like.

I have seen Subaru mount a conventional filter upside down in about that same location. Super easy to access but it's got to be a mess.

Yes I know, that's what I meant by oil filter canister. The filter element is inside the plastic canister. Exactly the same as what's used on my Porsche and Lexus.

BUT being upside down on top of the engine, appears it will result in messy spillage when removed.

OK, I was assuming you had not seen this system before. As you unscrew the cap to change the filter element the oil drains into the engine block. The filter doesn't retain any volume of oil when it is unscrewed. The only mess is a few drips off the filter element as it is removed. Easy to manage with a shop rag. Between the cartridge filter and Topside oil extraction on most models, you can service the car without making any kind of mess at all.

Thanks guys.

Interesting that the central 'air intake' doesn't really do much.

Thumbs up

The area in front of the radiator matrix is boxed in to force the high pressure air at the front of the car trough the various radiators and provide a positive pressure at the air intakes.. or rather to prevent it bypassing the cooling and intake systems.

The sealing of this is important as the cooling depends on flow and that's only achieved with a pressure gradient... so high pressure on the intake side and low pressure on the engine side...
So the central air intake is doing exactly what it needs to ...
