Night Edition BLACK Grill
The one thing cosmetically that I don’t like on my car is all the chrome on the diamond grille. I really don’t want to vinyl wrap each of the 50-60 diamonds so I’m looking for some help.
Has anyone bought a black grill on eBay?
anyone source the 2018 night edition black grill?
Has anyone tried any other technics? (Besides plastiDip?)
thanks in advance, I’d love to get rid of some of this chrome in a way where it won’t chip or look cheap.
Thanks in advance!!

IIRC, someone on the forum got black wrap and went through the tedious process of cutting out 50-60 little black diamonds and covering the chromed/silver diamonds. It looked pretty good, but it certainly took some effort. If you do a search you might find the photo. Good luck!

Damn that looks GOOD!
I like the black grill when you've got the rest of the car blacked out with the 'Night Pkg' and all. Especially on that grey.
And I thought I wanted the night pkg on my black car but the more and more I saw it without, I'm super happy I didn't get it. I love how the chrome bits (front lip, diffuser, exhaust tips, grill) contrast with the black. I hate chrome for the most part but the chrome gill on my car is one of my favorite grills that Benz offers.

did you go with gloss black for the whole thing? Did you bring it to a shop? Did they clear coat it?
my only worry with painting the grill is the rock chips that could occur.
Theres a few on eBay that cost less then a paint job on the current grill, and it ditches the diamonds and matches the bottom grill mesh. Just have no idea about the quality.

I would make sure you use a high quality and very durable type of coating, not just your average spray paint. Or use a mid-grade paint and then finish it with some type of durable clear coat. Maybe an enamel or epoxy of some sort. Look into some other types of coatings as well like Plasti-Dip. Plasti-Dip is great to use when you expect it to get chipped as it's very easy to remove. It's like a spray on shell that's decently strong when it's all one piece, but when it's structure gets compromised, like a chip, then the rest of it comes right off as if it was a temporary paint. I don't think they have a gloss version though. Also, maybe instead of taking the time to tape off around all of those diamonds, I bet you could easily apply it with with a brush, no?

So true though, you have to have a theme to your car and sometimes black accents looks better and sometimes chrome accents looks better

Put it this way, if you drive on the highway you are going to get some rock chips over time. Happens to every car if you use it as a daily driver.

I know it sounds crazy, and is the most complex, vinyl is the most durable. My body shop guy told me he has to respray his chrome every few months. Plastipid is quick and dirty and looks great from 10 feet. But if I were you, I'd pencil in an afternoon for some vinyl cutting.

i like leaving the star and center bar silver/chrome. The diamonds i wish were black. I will wiat for the new 2018 oem black grill to be available as a part. we probably just need to find the part number and we could get it. prolly a few hundred though.

It's in Canada as well. You have the night package but in 2018 I believe there's a 'night edition' that comes with more black accents - the grill and rims being part of it.

In the US, the AMG Performance Studio Package with the black grill is only available on the coupe/cabriolet. Do the coupe and sedan share the same grill?
