Are we going to see a C53 soon?

Hello, just curious on your thoughts regarding the 53 models that Mercedes presented last week, are we going to see a C53 for 2019? with 4 matic+ where you can choose RWD or AWD as in the E63? Cheers,

Nope
"It'll take some time before the changeover from V6 to inline-six is complete, though. Källenius said that Mercedes has no plans to fit a straight-six to a C-Class, for example, though the engine does fit. He did confirm, however, that the E43 sedan will die in favor of an upcoming E53 sedan, so at least one V6-powered Merc isn't long for this world."

I doubt it. Because it would canabalize the E53 and CLS53 sales. I think mercedes regrets the W204 C63, with it being so similar to the then rwd E63. Which is why they released a E63S later on with more hp and AWD but didnt do the same for the W204 C63.

You can see mercedes pricing segmentation strategy now in that even the E43 is marketed as more HP and mercedes has EXPLICITLY said they would not be releasing a C63 4Matic. They have not even released, or announced a E63 4 Matic Coupe, cause why would anybody buy a S63 Coupe then?

Therefore my prediction is a firm no. I do not think we will see a C53. Atleast not in the trim they are advertising with 430hp and a 21hp 186ft/lb torque electric motor.

But It would not make sense for Mercedes to have so many 3liter 6cylinder engines. I could see them using a detuned, non hybrid inline6 as the next C43 to the tune of 400hp. That I could see. But I do not think the C will get the same combination as the E or CLS.

I don't see the point unless they get rid of the 43 in favor of the 53. It would be dumb to have two 6cylinder models. And really, what is the 53 going to be but just a 6cylinder with a power bump from slightly larger turbos (I'd assume anyways)? So really, regardless of the name 43 or 53, it'll be the same car with just a different badge cause if they kept the 43 and had it remain at the same 380ish hp then no one would buy it when the 53 would be a better choice for probably $3,000 more...

Isn't the w206 C63 going to be AWD, or at least have an AWD option?

I remember reading that all AMG models will have the new adjustable 4MATIC system except the AMG GT will remain RWD

Based on what I have read the W206 will have an inline 6. The W205 would not be able to receive this engine without a redesign. The W206 is projected to be released in 2020.

C43 AMG Coupe
there will not be a c53.

The c43 is already the middle of the road for the C series, it would be too costly to produce 5 different c class cars. Also, they just started branding the “43” on multiple models. It won’t happen, in my opinion ever, but not anytime soon.

i am not sure how they will handle the naming of the sedans, but when they switch over to the inline 6 on the W206, it will likel replace the V6 on all models. I would not think there would be a C53 and a C43 at the same time. I think what will be more interesting will be what they will do with the C63.

I agree DRLC43 there, they could replace the c43 entirely but to merely leave the option out there for an inline vs current v6 would be a wild option to give car owners at a big cost to the company. Too much variability between products to maintain margins.

48v mild hybrid is the main difference. Going to the I6 from V6 is just the icing on the cake.
I'm sure this will trickle down to the C class eventually. I expect Merc will continue using the m276 for 1 or 2 more model years before rolling out the new I6 in the C and GLC models.

This follows the usual pattern of new tech first appearing on the S and E platforms before infiltrating the rest of the lineup.
