Removing the trackpad

Anyone know what’s involved in removing the trackpad?

I guess that all I need is the trim piece that goes in its place. Anyone have the part number(s) needed?

If you can't find anyone to give you the part number, then you could call/visit your dealer's parts department and they should be able to track it down.

I'm guessing that you want to remove it as you don't ever use it and occasionally get annoyed by it like me when you accidentally brush it and change the radio station? Because I hear you if that's the case haha. But I like resting my hand on it and feel like it wouldn't be as comfortable without it there. Maybe there is an option to disable the trackpad instead?

Yep, i besides finding it annoying and useless, i hate how it’s in the way.

I’d prefer removing it but I sure will pull the plug off it, in the mean time. Thanks for the suggestion, Sean.

You know you can disable the track pad function right?
The option is listed in the vehicle settings tab.
Once you do that, all you have to worry about it touching it in the summer. DANG that thing gets hot.

Word, I figured there was, I just never remember to take a minute to look into it as I only ever think to do it when I bump it while I'm driving. Thank you, sir

You should probably leave it on anyways. It's a good scratch protector.

I wish it was like the first generation controller that had a leather top. It flipped open to the side revealing a handy dialer keypad for the integrated Motorola v60 cellular phone.
I mean the dialer is redundant now, and the leather pad would suffice...but then again so is a touch pad right above the control wheel.

That was definitely a slick design for the time. I really like the wheel as it's simple and I prefer having the clicking/feedback from mechanical functions over touchpads and screens. I wish there was the option to replace the trackpad with just a leather piece like that.

I always laugh when someone gets in my car for the first time as almost every one of them immediately questions the trackpad/wheel like it's some sort of alien technology. "Whoa! What does that thing do?!" I'll just answer with "changes the radio station." They usually look disappointed :p

I scoff at the concept of gesture swipes and finger spelling on a touch pad. When I'm driving I only use one gesture with my finger, and that is reserved for special circumstances.

Haha I feel ya there. And it seems to me that those "special circumstances" are becoming more and more frequent.

I don't know if it's this whole 'smart phoning while driving' thing or if society is just progressively getting more and more terrible, but it's terrible out there. I used to commute on my bike and cruise all around without a second thought. But the past couple of years I find myself hesitating to take it out at all. If I wasn't on constant high alert and such an experienced driver, I would have been roadkill 100 times over at the least. No one pays attention behind the wheel anymore. It used to be a privilege but has become such a daily routine task/right with people that they forget how dangerous this sh#t is!
