Here is an example...it's not my car. But you see the gray box indicates that it's in transit.

Hey everyone, quick question for those who may be in the know. This is the first car I have ever had custom built, most have been purchased off the lot and I have been force fed packages that have been installed prior. Well today I popped in to see the status of our C43 Sedan (build sent in Oct 2018 - we want a collection date in April to avoid the snow) and our SA said our car was give a VIN number. I took a screen cap of the number as I planned to use it for my (accurate) insurance quote (we got a quote on an 18 to use in the mean time). When I got home I called the insurance company and gave them the VIN...they said it isn't valid/registered.

Does anyone know at what point the VIN becomes registered? I also tried it to register on the AMG Private Lounge (couldn't think of anywhere else to check it's validity) and it also bounced back as unregistered. Any info would be appreciated as my SA is off for a few weeks vacation.

Thanks

Not sure how it takes to become registered, but I did all of the above with mine and had no issues. This was probably a month after I actually got the VIN from my SA though.

Called my SA last night. My sedan was released to the carrier on Tuesday morning and nothing yet. He called the carrier to get an ETA and they couldn’t get him one. All they could tell him was that is was “in the system.” My confidence is not inspired.

Possibly. From what I can tell it never had a VPC delayed status.

My dealer said my sedan is in a off-site lot. It needs to be transported back to the VPC, then processed. Then it will be released and delivered. Whats strange is ones that don't have priority, i.e. not ordered for a customer, are being delivered more than the orders. No rhyme or reason!

Still VPC-Delayed status for mine. Very frustrating to say the least.

Yep, add me to the list. Sucks to see several cars listed for sale online that have arrived at dealers while ordered cars sitting somewhere in a lot and we can't get an ETA for delivery.

We paid a deposit. In theory, we should get priority.
Maybe we should make our displeasure known to the good folks at MBUSA.
**edit**
Although, I do not see any 2019 C43 sedans for sale on the dealer web site.
Maybe they are actually doing FI/FO.

Yeah, don’t understand why the ones that put their order in over 8 months ago are still waiting. Makes no sense! Priority??

more like last in first out since I ordered in May. Maybe they are slowing distribution to make sure the market is saturated for buyers that walk on the lot? The dealers don’t have anymore information than we do.

Good customer service would suggest that deposits or full sales get priority. From a business perspective, shipping the “sold” vehicles first makes no sense. Ship the unsold vehicles so dealers can sell them sooner. It’s not like (m)any of us are going to cancel our orders this close to getting the car.

Depends on which part of the business you are referring- Sold vehicles has guarantee sale when they hit the lot. Even the full sale vehicles are unearned revenue. I am not sure if the cars on the lot are on consignment or if they are owned by the dealer, but on the dealer side, it just doesn’t make sense to bring in the unsold inventory before anything else. *especially this close to the end of the year.

Most are purchased by dealer. Some are on consignment. Really depends on the dealership’s preferences.

I’d think a dealer would rather have 30 days to sell a vehicle than any time less than that. You can get the preordered vehicles five days before the end of the month and move them in time, since they’re pre-sold.

So, if I get all my unsold vehicles on the first shipment of the month, it gives me more time to sell them before the close of the month. As long as I get the pre-sold vehicles on a subsequent shipment that will still arrive by the end of the month, those vehicles won’t take me anytime to move.

That said, as a customer, I want my F&$!’in car first, lol.

LOL. I hear you. It does make sense business wise, if they were actually receiving the non-sold ones, but it just seems like a random trickle.
To quote my dealer, “Should be soon... Hopefully.” At least we wait together. I will say that if I see one of the random non-sold C43s driving around before delivery, I may pull over and cry for a moment.

I ordered my C43 sedan in brilliant blue through Steve and Shahul. I was scheduled for a second decade December build. So I was ecstatic to get an email from Steve yesterday informing me that my car was already built and picked up from VPC. And today, it arrived at Eurocars Germantown!

I turned in all my paperwork just now, and I'm set to drive down to Maryland on the 17th to pick up my car. I wish I weren't so tied up with work next week. Otherwise, I'd be there on Monday... Anyway, I'm so happy to have ordered from Steve and Shahul rather than from the dealers in NJ and NY. They're true car guys and absolute pros!

You’ve confirmed it- Last In First Out. I ordered from Euromotors as well and it’s been sitting in a VPC remote lot since September. Haha

Your dilemma of being unable to come down until the 17th helps me cope though. I’m excited that you have gotten what many of us are waiting for! Your ride home is going to be awesome on that day.
