Facelift 2019 C43 exhaust is still awesome (video inside)

Hi Guys,

I've seen a lot of concerned posts on here about the 2019 C43 facelift not having the same crazy sounds with the AMG performance exhaust.

I too was a little worried while I was waiting for my order having driven only the prefacelift.

I've had my C43 since January and after driving over 2k miles I can happily say the exhaust has really opened up.

I went for a quick drive yesterday with the Gopro to see if I could get a clip of some nice pops and bangs and the C43 did not disappoint!

I thought I would share this video here for those that are waiting for there orders to hopefully remove any concerns!

Keep in mind it's always hard to capture good audio to create the real feeling and sensation. In person these pops and bangs sounded insane. It was like a machine gun being fired/fireworks.

Anyhow here's the video.

The 2017-2018 bangs on the upshift. Couldn’t hear that on yours.

Here are some examples. Skip to 20 seconds in the first video. The upshift bang isn’t nearly as loud as the 2017-2018 version in the second video. It’s a noticeable difference. I’m also old so maybe my hearing is bad. You can be the judge yourself.

please bare in mind a wagon is going to be way louder on the interior - that's basically like driving around in a coupe/sedan with the rear seats down. The volume increases significantly.

Yea but the video on the exterior is pretty clear. Anyone who has driven the pre-facelift and is familiar with the sound knows the difference. You don’t have to take my word for it.

Also, I don’t mean to call you out, “alexasa” but your pre-facelift car didn’t come with performance exhaust.

Ask anyone who actually has a pre-facelift C43 with PE. They will know.

I didn't have a c43 at all. Thanks for the assumptions though.

I'm not arguing either way - just pointing out a wagon is going to be louder on the inside by a considerable amount. I really couldn't care less about the difference between them other than the association that might have with the dyno figures. People reporting 2019 singing at high revs and the few dyno charts would make sense of the difference in power delivery low down.

The second video is mine haha. Actually I didn't notice the upshift bang in OP's video either. But he didnt really shift up anywhere did he. He just pressed the gas and released it. RokenR's C43 review however showed the 2019 does not sound like the old cars.

I've had both a 2017 and now a 2019 both with PE. And yes the 19 sounds more muted. Theres definitely a different sound and it is not as aggressive as MY17 was. I also haven't really pushed my 19 since it's still fairly new but my impression out of the gate is its definitely not as aggressive as my 17 was.

I feel like all the 2019 C43 and 53s all have the same muffled sound. I cant exactly describe the sound, except that it sounds muffled compared to 2016-2018 cars.

Woa, there's a bit if a debate here so maybe i can help.

I made this video as to showcase the pops and and bangs. Its mostly shot in second gear and I don't really show much up-shifting at all.

When i got my c43 mercedes gave me a prefacelift for a whole weekend to test drive so I have a really good point of comparisson.

In fact I actually recorded some driving in the prefacelift with the same equipment so I'm going to make a comparison video on the same roads.

In the thread I said its sounds awesome, not exactly the same.

I would say that there is some difference in the sounds. I would say the sound is a little bit more beefy but not by much. In the 2017 and the first initial upshift is a little louder but honestly the 2019 still sounds amazing.

The sound feels a lot more refined in the 2019. It has far less drone on the motorway. The whole car is a lot more refined.

But the difference is so minor you could easily go mad trying to compare.

Kind of funny that I just watched your video a few days ago and now I see you post here. Lol

Anyways, I think you nailed it. I know the preface lift 43 is louder, but it definitely has a higher pitch to it. The new car is a tad deeper in tone which does make it sound more beefy. Imo

And yes, the 2019 is most definitely a more refined car all around. It also seems to pull harder at freeway speeds which is either because of the faster gearing change or the more hp due to bigger turbos.

to me the best part it's at start-up... it's shame that it cannot be defaulted at sport+ by default or you need to tune or similar to achieve it

the less aggressive upshifts are actually way better. That was probably one of the worst characteristics of the performance exhaust lol

yep. Especially since you didn’t have to go fast for it to happen. Bang upshift 1st to 2nd gear in a parking lot lol
