2019 C43 - Android Auto + Galaxy S9
Hey guys,
New to the forum here. I've recently been stumped and had to ask if others are facing the same issue.
Just got my C43, and when trying to get Android Auto to work with my Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, it simply won't work.
I have the app installed on my phone, I connect it via the original USB-C cable that came with the phone, and the furthest it gets is it shows the black and white Android Auto logo on the car's screen, and then freezes there (I can still hit Home on the touchpad to get back to the rest of the car's features).
Most times, it simply says "Android Auto could not be started."
My phone, however, thinks its fully connected and even shows the "connected to car" Android Auto screen ("Swipe to unlock")
The phone is connected via bluetooth for calls, messages, and media, but I really wanted Android Auto to work.
Car was just delivered yesterday, so no worries on the car's firmware, and my phone is on Android Pie (April Security Patch.)
Any ideas ?

Do you have it plugged into the right port? Only one USB input in the glove works for these systems.
Other than that, I had to enable SIRI on the iphone side for it to work. Maybe a similar issue is present on the Android side but it's not communicating that with you.

Ill try to fidget around with it, and maybe try another device too to see if its really just my phone or if its the car.

I think this is true as well, this is where I have mine plugged in (Galaxy S8). Works no issues. I think there's a different symbol by the USB port as well to indicate.

For 2019s the port is the one by the cupholders by the wireless charger. It should have a phone/tablet logo. I also have an S9+. You also have to allow the connection on the phone after you plug the wire in.

Yeah, I didn't know they changed it for 2019 but since there's a symbol, I assumed it was this one. So you have an S9+ and a 2019 C43 - can you answer a few questions?
1. What wire are you using?
2. What version of Android is your phone on?
3. What is the process that you go through to get Android Auto working?
Really frustrated by this :/

Just one thing to check if not using the genuine cable that came with your phone try that one. Some cheaper aftermarket cables are charge only and won't pass data.

This is a common issue, as some USB cable are not actually data-capable (though I haven't seen many USB-C that aren't and the OP is using the Samsung cord). You want to make sure you have the phone and the car "paired" to one another in android auto and in the car menu. Make sure you have Bluetooth on and paired, as its still required to use the phone functions in Android Auto. Also don't forget to check Android Auto's permissions under Settings->Apps on the phone. Some have said NFC needs to be on and connected too, but the NFC is only for the external antenna connection, it isn't part of Autos functionality.

Solution
To those wondering, I resolved this - The cable that came with my S9+ was malfunctioning. Went and bought an OEM Samsung Quick Charge set (The adapter + cable combo) and the cable from that pack worked immediately.
Thanks for all the help.

Hopefully the new android auto update will allow it to take up the whole screen.

That 3/4 screen is annoying. Only because that could be a third screen (like on either side of the digital dash cluster) Would be great to use it for something else like performance page, AMG Track Pace, radio/media status.

I have the Samsung S10+ and a Pioneer NEX-4200 and I can not seem to get my phone to connect with the hear unit. I would love to be able to use AA, but I have spent a lot of time trying and I've had no luck so far. And I was a mobile electronics installer as well as a car audio competitor for many years. I'm sure it's something very simple that I am just over looking.
