Question New car delivery/tracking information. What can dealer tell you?

I signed my contract at the end of March (2019 C43 Wagon) and, according to the tentative information I got on April 22nd, I’m supposed to receive the car on July 26.
Since then, dealer has not received any other information (so they say). They do not know if the car was actually made, was it shipped and where exactly it might be right now.
Is this normal? Is Mercedes that good that initial information did not change and I am to expect the car in two weeks?
Feels weird since I can track delivery of just about anything I buy online, yet I have no idea where my $80,000 vehicle is.

I can't tell you all what they see, maybe a dealer on here could be more specific. I can tell you what my experience was to at least use as a basis of comparison for windows of time etc.

3/20- I ordered a '2019 coupe on March 20th from a dealer in New Jersey. (car to be built in Germany)
3/22-A few days later the dealer informed me that the car would be built during the 1st decade of June.
5/22-On May 22nd the dealer sent me a screen shot from their "Nerstar" system that the car would be built on June 10th
6/8- Dealer informed the car was actually built on June 6th
6/14- Dealer informed me the ship with my car was slated to dock in Baltimore on June 23rd
6/26- (my wedding anniversary haha) the dealer called to tell me the car arrived at the dealership

All in all is was 14 weeks from the time I ordered to delivery. Not too bad, I was expecting 16 or more weeks.

Best of luck and congrats...if it's any consolation it IS worth the wait.

Thank you! That helps...
We are not too far apart with the order dates and your planned production date was exactly the same as mine! Not sure how come my guy can't confirm if the car was shipped already and can't confirm that planned delivery date is actually going to happen. Maybe i should just relax and assume that I will be indeed getting the car in 2 week!

This is what my sales rep sent me from their system:

Planned Delivery Date: 20190726
DEC-SCH-DATE: 19061
PLN-SC-DATE: 19062
PROD-ACT-DATE: 20190610
SHPT-DATE: 00000000

I hope that is the case for you as well! You are right our dates are very close. The only difference is your location and your car is a wagon/estate vs a coupe (awesome btw, we can't order wagons here in the US).

I can tell you in my case the dealer really didn't have much info in terms of any dates until the car was actually confirmed built. Once it was they were able to provide better estimates of shipping/delivery etc. Up until that point, surprisingly they really didn't have much info.

As you stated, its a bit disconcerting when you can't track a $70K-$80 car but can get up to the minute shipping status on a toothbrush or whatever order.

I ordered a 2020 C43 Wagon (Canada) in early May. I just got confirmation that the car is currently being built. They originally told me that every step would be tracked and I would be kept in the loop. Seems odd that some dealerships can provide the info and others cannot?

I'm not sure what systems the dealers in Canada use, but here in the USA the system is called Netstar. It shows the status of the order including when it's scheduled to be built etc. If they don't have any updates, then the car has likely not even been built yet. Once it's built, its status will say so, and then there are further statuses for when it arrives at the port and gets assigned to a vessel and the name of the vessel. Once you have that, there are several sites that let you track the vessel. Once it arrives here, the dealer can track it at the VPC once it clears customs and when it is scheduled to be transported to the dealership. Unfortunately, there is very little insight into the process if the car is delayed for some reason. Instead the order will just sit there with no update. Several folks have been waiting for their 2019 C63 orders and the cars have had lengthy delays with no explanation. If your car hasn't been built yet, then it will most likely not get built as a 2019. They have already started building the 2020s. I would follow up with your dealer and have them make some calls to find out what's going on. They should at a minimum be able to tell you when it is scheduled to be built. The wagons I believe are built in their South Africa plant BTW.

PFEAMG, Strat89 and Superswiss, thank you so much for your responses! Appreciate it!
I think the issue is actually with my sales representative. Getting tired of playing phone tag and can’t really deal with short, uninformative emails. I will be going to the dealership in person and talking to someone who will be able to tell me what is going on with my order.

Strat89, how did you build your 2020 in May if there is no information on what features are included? Example; is C63 steering wheel offered in the AMG Driver’s package for 2020?

yeah, I think its about time for a in person visit to the dealer...something doesn't sound right especially this far into the process.

Regarding the 2020 orders, I think there is another thread about the order info for those cars. You may want to check it out as well...

I wish you the best of luck and getting it all sorted out.

I basically ordered with the 2019 specs and was given a “What’s new for 2020” brochure. I believe the steering wheel is added to the AMG drivers package. Even though the car is built I still don’t have the 2020 pricing. I can confirm also that the wagon was built in Germany.

I ordered a brilliant blue sedan on March 9 in Toronto and was told it is built with a VIN, but it is sitting somewhere waiting to be shipped... Still waiting...

Just came back from my dealer.. My car (which is now model year 2020) was just made (first week of July) and it is currently sitting on the factory parking lot in Germany. Dealer has the VIN and will let me know once on the ship to Halifax. New planned delivery date is August 26th unless there are any other delays (example: Transport Canada certification of 2020 model).
I did not get the night package, so i will not get black window trim and black mirrors as they are removed from standard config, but it looks like AMG drive unit on the steering wheel has been added to the AMG drivers package.

Hey Gawaynel, I would definitely go to the dealer and ask what's up. Sedan is made in USA so delivery should be a bit faster.

Sounds like our cars will be on the same shipment to Halifax. What color/interior did you go with?

I got Selenite grey with base interior (black artico). My wife and I prefer the artco. I got red seat belts too.. + Premium, AMG Drivers and Technology package. also, 19" multi-spoke silver rims.

How about you?

Also went with Selenite grey but with the saddle brown interior. Same options as you. 19" rims but didn't do the multi spoke, which in hindsight I wish I did. I hope it doesn't disappoint!

First of all, welcome to the forum! I'm fairly new here too, but I'll do my best to provide some insight. It's understandable that you're feeling a bit anxious about the delivery of your new car. While it's true that some online purchases allow for easy tracking, the process might be a bit different when it comes to vehicle shipments.

They usually receive updates when the car reaches significant checkpoints, such as when it arrives at a port or a distribution center. Unfortunately, they may not have access to real-time information about the car's location. Rest assured that the dealer's lack of updates doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong. Sometimes, these things just take time. It might be worth reaching out to your dealer to express your concerns and see if they can provide any additional information or estimated timelines. So to understand what happens during transportation, I would contact similar Ship Vehicles companies if I were you. They should be able to offer some reassurance and keep you informed as much as possible.
