Purchased at Auction

So I am currently looking for a used C43 and found one that fits most of my needs. In the Carfax report (dealer provided on their website) it seems that car was Canadian and then last spring was sold to the current dealer using "Auto Auction Michigan". Everything on the report seems fine. Any red flags here? Thoughts on dealers buying the car from Auction or is this something that goes on all the time?

Thanks for any insight. Been actively looking for a few months now and it's existing to be close!

Edit: Also, any additional considerations between a Canadian spec vs US? I noticed from the pictures the temp is in C and I assume that can be changed in the vehicle settings? GPS/Maps I assume are global and not market specific?

Edit again: Sorry for the double post, put the edit in the wrong spot and can't delete....

Cars go to auction all the time for a bunch of reasons, so no red flag there...but going across the border raises a question or two. All C readings can be changed to F .

What sort of questions does it raise for going across the border?

Are all the i's dotted and t's crossed on the importation and U.S. registration? Was it an individual who moved to the US and personally imported the car, or was it a dealer-to-dealer transaction. If the former, less reason to dig deeper than if the latter. I'd DEFINTELY check the CarFax and carProof (the Canadian CarFax) to see the history of the car. If declared salvage from a serious accident it can't be registered in Canada, but once in the U.S. who knows what might have happened. While it's tarring a province with a broad brush, there has been a much higher incidence of fraud and suspect business practices from car dealers in Quebec than in the rest of Canada. If the Car is from Quebec originally, additional caution might be warranted.

Thanks for the information. The car originates from Quebec and it was bought at the Michigan auction like posted above. US Carfax from the site shows everything is fine. Maybe worth the 40 bucks to check CarProof I suppose. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Another big question -- since the temp readings are in Celsius, are the speed and mileage readings in KPH? If so, only the digital versions may be possible to change. Any analog speedo may be hard-printed. If the car has the digital instrument panel, you may be able to change, but it is probably a dealer thing.

Yeah, main dash picture shows Miles and MPH on the speedo but I plan on asking them.

Since I assume you are not a dealer, buying a car at an open auction (anyone can bid/buy) vs a closed auction (restricted to dealers and in some circumstances open only to certain brand dealers) are very different experiences. Closed auctions cars sell at or near wholesale whereas at open auctions it gets close to full retail. If you have access, check Manheim MMA to get a good estimate of value.

Nope I am not a dealer, nor am I purchase the car at auction. Was just wondering if seeing a dealer purchase the car from an auction from another country is an issue.

If AutoCheck and CarFax are ok I would have no concerns. Check to see prior owners. Hertz had a ton of C63s and some C43. Prior rental use is more of a stigma as opposed to a quality concern. I owned a car rental franchise for many years and bought/ sold 1000+ cars a year at auction so maybe I'm biased

I think we have a guy here that purchased Canadian C43 too, he had a few things that didn't work in the US.

The Celsius can not be changed to Fahrenheit. Additionally, there is no SOS button nor the i button. Lastly, th Mercedes Me App isn't compatible with Canadian Vehicles. You'll have to add an aftermarket remote started. Also, you might have issues on recalls. The codes are different. Other than those things, everything else is the same.

Looks like C to F can't be changed...I mistakenly assumed that as km to miles was changeable on a digital display that temperature was, too. The Canadian Merecedes Me app (including remote start) works on the 2019 C43...is the U.S. one different?

I think Mercedes Me became functional in Canada for 2019's. As far as the recalls, I was told the stealership will just do the update regardless based on the year.

The Mercedes companion app, however, does work for earlier modes.

My Canadian car does not have MPH on speedometer only KMH ?? For what it’s worth I’ve brought more than 10 cars in from US and never had issues selling them here but never sent any the other way. It’s pretty simple to get used to.....60mph is 100kmh, and the 70mph is around 115kmh. As far as the temperature goes I just raise it or lower it until I’m comfortable. If the car checks out and you’re getting a good deal, cuz remember this car is going to have a “stigma” associated with it to scare off most people, you should be able to strike a good deal ( assuming it’s pretty much the spec you exactly want). Don’t forget you’re also going to be in the same spot when and if it comes time to sell it in the US. If you’re 100% sure then drive hard deal and go for it. Last thing.........Make sure it had the PE. !!!!!!'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
