2021 C CLASS INTERIOR?
Attached article has some spy shots of the new c class interior. Although having MBUX and other tech will be cool, not sure I’m loving the new look as much as the existing interior.
What do all think?

I’m guessing - and hoping - that there is still quite a bit of work to be done with the interior, because that A/C control looks like something straight out of a 90’s Mitsubishi!

For example the whole infotainment screen has been lowered. I know the existing screen gets dinged for looking like a after thought/tacked on iPad screen, but it is more at eye level and in line with the gauge cluster. I also like the way it looks “floating” there. This new one will require you to look down and it’s screen takes up a lot of real estate in the dash.
Oh well, we shall see.

I never did like the stuck on screen like we have. It screams lazy engineering to me, but that was the trend. Now, because of Tesla, the trend is the big ugly do all screen on the center stack. Look at the new Explorer. Just gross. I've lost interest in Audi because of what they've done to their interiors. All that glass and gloss piano black gives me a dust and fingerprint migraine.
I'm not a fan of the new S or C class interior, but apparently someone, or at least they think someone is.

but I agree - definitely not a fan of the all gloss and Tesla’esque design. Hopefully the finished car will look more finished and better integrated than this test mule! At least make it one big screen then to avoid that 90s style touch panel for the AC!

It’s funny, I’ve actually always liked the screen floating on top of the dash - but I am probably the only person in the world ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

I've seen many cars where the screen clearly sticks out on top with the rest of the dash at the height of the lower edge of the screen. The Tesla Model 3 interior is one prime example here. In case of the Model 3, the screen is also well in front of the rest of the dash which spoils the appearance even more.
In terms of distractions, screens being relatively high enough helps retaining your eye on the road even when looking at the screen. So there is some tradeoff w.r.t. height.

These cars have a lifespan of 6-8 years, so this will most likely be 2021 with release mid 2020, but no later than MY 2022 with release mid 2021.

I think we had a screen protector guy in the forum who used to make screen protectors for all the black chrome bits of the interior to prevent them from scratches. Seems like we need that guy back for sure if this is the direction the interior is heading.

As an older(73) S driver, I like the new W223. You can't give me enough technology, tomb quiet interior, fast accelerating, rock solid feeling of the S class. Can't wait.

Not a fan of the form over function philosophy.

Now that the new S Class is out I'm wondering if the above was just an early prototype. I like what I see in the W223 to be honest. I've sort of changed my stance on physical buttons a bit, because in reality I don't use them much in my C63. I mostly use the steering wheel controls to change drive modes and interact with COMAND and the digital dash. I also increasingly use voice control and I really don't fiddle with the climate control other than occasionally adjusting the temperature. Most of the time I just keep it at 72, but may lower it to 70 on a hot day, but otherwise it just stays in Auto and does its thing. I have to say the AMG Drive Unit was the best addition AMG has made and essentially made the center console buttons largely irrelevant. I do still use them for occasional functions and to turn off ECO start/stop when I start the car, so it's nice to still have them there, but while in motion I do all the drive mode changes from the steering wheel.
