Help me decide.... exhaust pipe cover

I know this depends on your personal preference but which one would you prefer, Chrome or Night Edition pipe cover?

Chrome

Night Edition

I prefer chrome personally. The high contrast against the black diffuser just makes them pop and stand out more, and thus draws attention to the sportier nature of the model variant. The black ones, whilst still nice, blend away a bit too much, almost getting lost in translation, especially in the night.

110% Chrome. Without chrome you are going to look like you are driving a C300. Chrome pops against the black diffuser and makes the plebs know you ain't joking around.

looks totally different in real life. I prefer the chrome tips but not the window trim and front louvers in chrome.

Thank you for the comments (all for chrome) and votes! I agree with the contrast and think that chrome pipe covers actually complement the iridium silver body. My only concern however is that over time chrome will show signs of aging.

I've seen the black exhaust tips chip and flake.

The chrome, on the other hand, will always look brand new so long as you occasionally hit them with a high-quality metal polish. The quad exhaust tips on my W204 C63 looked as good as factory new the day I turned the car in after 5 years.

I didn’t know. I’ve found a few threads about paint chips on MBWorld. This makes my decision easier.

I have black on mine and 2 and a half years in, the paint is all flaking off.

Got to the point where I am going to need to take them out and get them refinished somewhere.

Just wondering - How many of you would do C63 exhaust tips? The reason I ask is this - and here’s a “tip” - on the 2019 facelift, the valence/diffuser is exactly the same, just need the tips and a certain plastic piece each side. Otherwise, the rear valence/diffuser is exactly the same as C63.

I prefer the oval on the C43...

That is unacceptable.... Are they made in China? Some parts are being made in China since 2016.... (Edit: the tips for both C43 and 63 are made in China)

and do you mind posting pics? If it’s still under warranty, you can get MB to replace them.

that certain plastic piece each side is a bracket. I would get C63s ones in chrome but that means I’ll have to replace the diffuser also. Trapezoidal ones are more aggressive but I personally like the round ones on C43 which is similar to the ones found on Porsche Panamera.

Ok, to be honest, before I started researching this, I had always preferred the round tips of the C43. After looking at it and the C63 ones, I think I’ve finally crossed over.

The C43 tips are starting look a little wimpy and really an afterthought with the filler plate filling up the aperture in the valence/diffuser that really was designed for the C63.

Compared to the C63 tips in the very same valence/diffuser.

The facelift C63 are also very different from the previous C63 tips. They are larger and are gently asymmetrical compared to the smaller and squarer pre-facelift tips. The pre-facelift C63 tips are really not beautiful at all compared to the newer ones.

The C43 facelift tips are starting to look odd to me.

The C63 facelift tips are just made for our valence/diffuser. Even though I like round tips better in general, in this application the C63 tips just look right and proper.

Look a little harder at the facelift C63 tips, they are such an improvement over the old C63 ones and really so perfect for our valence/diffuser.

For me, I can’t undo what I see now and can’t look back!

I think you're overthinking this. The rear of the C43 is the best part of the car. Compare to the M340 or the S4 which doesn't have an aggressive enough rear diffuser. I still prefer the clean rear of the C43 to the C63 but I know I'm in the minority...

What do you mean clean rear of the C43 (compared) to the C63.

Interestingly, I can’t find any topics about paint chips/flakes on C63 night package black exhausts tips. I wonder if they are more durable, or maybe they are made in Germany while C43 ones are made in China?

I agree entirely. I still think the C43 tips, rounded, are the way they should be on both cars. The rear of the C43 is excellent work.

the render does not show that the black tips still catch light and don't completely blend in. they also mask that filler panel a bit better because your eye isn't so drawn to it.

but you can't go wrong either way.

The C63 tips are an actual black chrome (like the tips on the pre-LCI C43 with Night Package), whereas the LCI ('19+) C43 tips are merely painted black.

Referring to this inner section of the exhaust tip, which is susceptible to the chipping and flaking:

That explains it! Shame MB

Edit: part #s A0004903000, A0004903100 (for night package C63) look like they are also painted....even facelift C43 chrome tips (A0004900800 and 900) are painted inside the same way as the night package counterparts..... so we are all destined to have paint flakes Replacement for A0004903000, A0004903100 (A0004905100, A0004905200 respectively) might not be painted but they are for C63.

Whoa... in your case it's the outside. I asked if C63 owners experienced any paint chips/flakes on C63 forum and two people with 2018 C63S 10K and 16K miles reported that they haven't or maybe they didn't look carefully. I don't know what to think anymore.

No issue from my factory black pre-facelift c63 tips.
