2019 AMG C43
Middle Sixes

Since 2013 I have had an Audi S4 B8, BMW 340i X-Drive (F30) and now have 2019 C43 AMG and wife has the 2019 X3 M40i.

I can honestly say I have enjoyed each of these 6 cylinder German cars. For me, they are all very close and very German.

That is they key...the Germans just do it right in this 6 cylinder segment.

This time I also test drove the Genesis G70 6 cylinder AWD, the new Volvo S60 T6 R-Design, the Jag, and the Lexus IS350.

None of these was even close to the S4, M340i, C43.

Nor were their SUVs close to the Audi SQ5, X3 M40i, Mercedes GLC 43.

As I was getting the AMG C43, for the wife we were looking really hard at the Audi SQ5 and the BMW X3 M40i.

The B58 and the exhaust of the X3 M40i were the winning points...but very close.

In these segment, the Germans are all very close.

2018 C205 C43 AMG
I had a C250 Estate (18 months old) took it in to the dealer for two new tires, they wanted AU$1200 which P******D me off, I sat in the show room to have a coffee and calm down, ended up buying a C43 Coupe half an hour later. Probably the most poorly researched decision I've ever made, however I'm still in love with the C43 2 years later, zero regrets at all. I've come to conclusion that I'm just an idiot and shouldn't think hard about any decision, just go with my gut instead. Which reminds me, I bought 3 pallets of fake cucmbers off eBay while drunk, does anyone want any??

I cut my loss and finally got my 2019 C43 sold, all in all had it just over a year. Those of you in larger countries are lucky in that you get to test drive these cars before purchasing.

I got to test drive all 3.

Ended up with a 2020 C43
For me:
Bmw m340i - was nice! But to me a bit boring on the inside. Sound of exhaust wasn't inspiring, hate the steering wheel. Price was cheaper then the c43 however, but this one was not x drive.
Audi s4 - very smooth ride and comfortable. Exhaust was meh for me and interior was cool but didn't have an edge. Good price, but something about it didn't feel special for the price.
2020 C43 - drive comfort sucks. 4matic is nice, and the PE exhaust is unmatchable by the others. The look of peoples faces when driving in my car is priceless. I also got the amg unit on steering wheel, makes it feel very high end. Seats are uncomfortable. Was most expensive out-of the 3. Im leasing at 610 a month (msrp with options 68k) Bmw was under 520 (msrp 63k) and audi was about the same as bmw.

The upgraded headlights on mercedes are AMAZING also. The cornering lights work beautifully.

In the end, I think its just down to personal preference. Ive owned mostly mercedes so that is part of it as well.

That said, my wife and I think the car is a capable cross-country car for the backroads of America. It offers up 85% of the enjoyment we experience with our Porsche Boxster S.

Enjoy the new Audi, it has a more compliant ride along with a very smooth transmission and controls.

I know it’s different for each individual but I guess I just don’t share the same level of harshness as everyone else. Especially since I’m coming from a Lexus IS350 where Lexus is known for comfortable suspensions. I’m still on oem 19” wheels on runflats btw. I have no problem owning the C43 as a daily driver but I’m also used to driving lowered cars with stiffer suspensions.

I find the C43 suspension generally too soft with inadequate damping. Suspension definitely loses out to its German rivals.

You are, after all, driving a brand known for more luxury than an upscale Volkswagen, or a Bimmer. The fact that it can score within .01 on the skidpad of a Bimmer in its class is pretty impressive, given that it targets luxury over "Fahrvergnügen".
