leather smells like crayons
anyone else notice their AMG leather smells like crayons?
i bought my 2016 450 CPO from a dealer. when i first got the car i thought the previous owner maybe had kids and dropped a crayon on between the seats or something.
couldn't find anything... more noticeable of a smell when the leather gets warm (either heat from sun or seat warmers).
anyone else notice this? or is it just my car?

I had an '18 C43 with leather + ventilated seats (built in Alabama) and now I have a '20 C43 with leather + ventilated seats (built in East London, SA).
The leather texture and smell on the SA-built car is completely different. It's softer, a bit more supple, and has a darker, more matte texture. It also smells different than my '18.
I don't know if this is a "thing" or not, as this is my first SA-built car (C63 was German, 1st C43 was Alabama, 2nd C43 was SA). Not trying to say one is better than another, either. I'm guessing this just comes down to where the leather was sourced for a given build.

No. It's something in proximity to the engine bay. I only smell it in the summer or warm temps when the car is at peak temps, and windows are down or I'm walking around the car. Crayon smell is the perfect description, so I'm sure we're getting the same thing.

It's not the leather. Seems to be a common thing with German cars; if you google "why does my german car smell like crayons" you'll see how common it is. Seems to have to do with insulation that is coated with wax and heats up.
